Botswana, Capital Markets in Africa — The Botswana Stock Exchange Equity Markets was in bullish mood today as the Domestic Composite Index (DCI) and the Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) increased at the end of the days trading while the Foreign Composite Index (FCI) and Domestic Financial Sector Index (DFSI) registered no change. Domestic Investors helped raise Market capitalisation which also went up at the end of the days session.
The Botswana Domestic Composite Index (DCI) was up by13 points or 0.12 percent to close on 10,606.96 points from its previous close of 10,594.47 points.
The Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) was also up after the days trading closing at 794.64 gaining 0.22 points from its previous close of 794.42 points, a change of 0.03 percent (LASI is made up of the domestic companies and all foreign companies awarded the local asset status by the Ministry of Finance and development planning).
The Foreign Composite Index (FCI) continued to remain flat to close 1,566.14 points after the days trading.
The Domestic financial Sector index (DFSI) which is composed of all domestic financial sector companies, also remained flat after the days session to close on 1229.18 points.
The market capitalisation settled at BWP 419,769.07 million adding BWP 112.36 million to the US$419,656.71 recorded previously with the Domestic Equity accounting for BWP 50,333.72 million and the Foreign Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 369,435.35 million.
From a market activity perspective, the total daily volume settled at 2,860,414 shares traded which were exchanged from the 24,260 million Securities issued bringing the total turnover of those shares traded on the domestic and foreign main boards to BWP 7,522,687.74 million.
Leading the market activity in terms of the traded volumes were NAP recording volume figures of 2,679,636 followed by FNBB with 83,112 and Turnstar with 81,110 shares.
In terms of price gainers and losers the session today registered four price gainers and one price loser leaving market breadth positive, Choppies was up 1 point to close at BWP 425 per share, FNBB was up 1 point to close at BWP 380 per share, NAP was up 11 points to close at BWP 258 per share and RDCP was up 1 point to close at BWP 251 per share.
In terms of the price losers Barclays was down 1 point to close at BWP 441 per share.
