Botswana, Capital Markets in Africa — The Botswana Stock Exchange Equity Markets ended the week lower shedding on the gains made in the previous days trading as the Domestic Composite Index (DCI), the Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) and the Domestic Financial Sector Index (DFSI) decreased while the Foreign Composite Index (FCI) registered no change. Market capitalisation also went down at the end of the days session.
The Botswana Domestic Composite Index (DCI) was down by 13 points or 0.12 percent to close on 10,594.35 points from its previous close of 10,606.96 points.
The Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) was also down after the days trading closing at 794.52 losing 0.12 points from its previous close of 794.64 points, a change of 0.1 percent (LASI is made up of the domestic companies and all foreign companies awarded the local asset status by the Ministry of Finance and development planning).
The Foreign Composite Index (FCI) continued to remain flat to close 1,566.14 points after the days trading.
The Domestic financial Sector index (DFSI) which is composed of all domestic financial sector companies, also retreated by 0.17 percent or 2.07 points to close on 1227.11 points.
The market capitalisation settled at BWP 419,709.24 million shedding BWP 59.83 million compared to the US$419,769.07 recorded previously with the Domestic Equity accounting for BWP 50,273.89 million and the Foreign Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 369,435.35 million.
From a market activity perspective, the total daily volume settled at 2,998,551 shares traded which were exchanged from the 24,260 million Securities issued bringing the total turnover of those shares traded on the domestic and foreign main boards to BWP 11,483,953,077 million.
Leading the market activity in terms of the traded volumes were Letshego recording volume figures of 2,666,923 followed by FNBB with 157,871 and Lelotle with 104,416 shares.
In terms of price gainers and losers the session today registered one price gainer and four price losers leaving market breadth negative, Choppies was up 1 point to close at BWP 426 per share.
In terms of the price losers FNBB was down 1 point to close at BWP 379 per share, NAP was down 13 points to close at BWP 215 per share and Sechaba was down 1 point to close at BWP 2850 per share. Stanchart was down 23 point to close at BWP 1150 per share.
