Botswana, Capital Markets in Africa — The Botswana Stock Exchange Equity Markets bear tightened its grip on the Domestic Composite Index (DCI), Foreign Composite Index (FCI), Domestic Financial Sector Index (DFSI) and Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) as the session saw indices continue downward or remain flat. Market capitalisation decreased although price gains were made in 3 traded securities in the days trading.
The Botswana Domestic Composite Index (DCI) was flat with no points added to close at 10,789.52 points a minor downward move from its previous close of 10,790.05 points.
Likewise, the Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) was down after the days trading closing at 794.71 down 2.34 points from its previous close of 797.05, a change of 0.29 percent (LASI is made up of the domestic companies and all foreign companies awarded the local asset status by the Ministry of Finance and development planning).
The Foreign Composite Index (FCI) also decreased 1.17 points to close 1,567.91 points after the days trading closing 0.07 percent down from its previous close of 1569.08 points.
The Domestic financial Sector index (DFSI) which is composed of all domestic financial sector companies, sagged by 0.06 percent to 1237.33 points shedding 0.71 points to its previous close of 1238.04 points after the days trading.
The market capitalisation settled at BWP 419,816.53 million decreasing by BWP 1.436 million at the end of the day’s session with the Domestic Equity BWP accounting for BWP 51,145.77 million and the Foreign Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 368,670.76 million.
From a market activity perspective, the total daily volume settled at 1,447,853 shares traded which were exchanged from the 24,228 million Securities issued bringing the total turnover of those shares traded on the domestic and foreign main boards to BWP 14,833,689.76 million.
Leading the market activity in terms of the traded volumes were Sefalana recording volumes of 110,400, NAP recording volume figures of 4,885 followed by Choppies with 4,215.
In terms of price gainers and price losers there were three price gainers and two price losers today leaving market breadth positive, CHOBE was up 1 point to close at BWP 652 per share, Sefalana was up 3 points to close at BWP 1280 per share and TURNSTAR was up BWP 1 points to close BWP 295.
Conversely, Choppies was down BWP 5 to close at BWP 480 per share and Letshego was down by BWP 1 to close at BWP 307 per share.
