Gaborone, Botswana, Capital Markets in Africa — The Botswana Stock Exchange Equity Markets bear took further hold today as the downward trend in the DCI, LASI and DFSI continued and volumes in traded securities increased.
The Botswana Domestic Composite Index (DCI) was down by 3 points to close at 10,826.36 points falling by 0.02 percent from its previous close of 10,828.55 points.
Likewise, the Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) was also down after the days trading closing at 797.96 down 0.13 points from its previous close of 798.00 a change of 0.04% (LASI is made up of the domestic companies and all foreign companies awarded the local asset status by the Ministry of Finance and development planning).
The Foreign Composite Index (FCI) continued to remain flat recording a slight downward change of 0.04 points after the days trading closing at 1569.13 down from its previous close of 1569.17 points.
The Domestic financial Sector index (DFSI) which is composed of all domestic financial sector companies remained at 1241.61 points recording no change after the days trading.
The market capitalisation decreased by BWP 8.87 million settling at BWP 421,460.53 million at the end of the day’s session with the Domestic Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 51,420.38 million and the Foreign Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 370,140.15 million.
From a market activity perspective, the total daily volume settled at 465,487 shares traded which were exchanged from the 24,228 million Securities issued bringing the total turnover of those shares traded on the domestic and foreign main boards to BWP 1,700,532.17 million.
Leading the market activity in terms of the traded volumes were FNBB recording volume figures of 146,443 followed by Barclays with 67,000 and LETSHEGO with 54,217.
In terms of price gainers and price losers there was one price gainer and two price losers today leaving market breadth negative, RDCP was up 2 points to close at BWP 235 per share conversely, CHOPPIES was down 1 point to close at BWP 498 per share and SEFALANA was down 1 point to close at BWP 1275 per share.
