Gaborone, Botswana, Capital Markets in Africa — The Botswana Stock Exchange Equity Markets continued the downward trend in the DCI, LASI and DFSI while volumes in traded securities increased from the previous days trading.
The Botswana Domestic Composite Index (DCI) was down by 1.00 points to close at 10,825.23 points falling by 0.01 percent from its previous close of 10,826.36 points.
Likewise, the Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) was flat after the days trading closing at 797.95 down 0.01 points from its previous close of 797.96 a change of 0.00 percent (LASI is made up of the domestic companies and all foreign companies awarded the local asset status by the Ministry of Finance and development planning).
The Foreign Composite Index (FCI) continued to remain flat after the days trading closing at 1569.13 recording no change its previous close of 1569.13 points.
The Domestic financial Sector index (DFSI) which is composed of all domestic financial sector companies remained at 1241.61 points recording no change after the days trading.
The market capitalisation decreased by BWP 5.37 million settling at BWP 421,455.16 million at the end of the day’s session with the Domestic Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 51,315.01 million and the Foreign Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 370,140.15 million.
From a market activity perspective, the total daily volume settled at 887,254 shares traded which were exchanged from the 24,228 million Securities issued bringing the total turnover of those shares traded on the domestic and foreign main boards to BWP 4,005,429.64 million.
Leading the market activity in terms of the traded volumes were Letshego recording volumes of 500,00, FNBB recording volume figures of 131,509 followed by Barclays with 41,400.
In terms of price gainers and price losers there was four price gainers and two price losers today leaving market breadth positive, Chobe was up 15 points to close at BWP 650 per share conversely, Primetime was up BWP 1 point to close BWP 269, CHOPPIES was down 18 point to close at BWP 480 per share and Letshego was down 1 point to close at BWP 314 per share.
