Gaborone, Botswana (Capital Markets in Africa):- The BSE Equity Markets indices recorded further rises in todays session as the DCI main recorded a rise and local LASI indices recorded a slight increase also. The FCI index however recorded a decrease.
The Botswana Domestic Composite Index (DCI) recorded a rise to close at BWP 10,950.01 up 95.00 points (+0.88 percent) from its previous close of 10854.50 .
The Foreign Composite Index (FCI) however fell today registering a decrease of -0.49 percent a change of -0.03 percent to settle at 1571.27.
The Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) recorded a rise of 0.90 points closing at 800.00 , a 0.11 percent rise from its previous close of 799.25 08 (LASI is made up of the domestic companies and all foreign companies awarded the local asset status by the Ministry of Finance and development planning.)
From a market activity perspective, the daily volume settled at 8,314 shares traded which were exchanged from the 25,712 million Securities issued bringing the turnover of those shares traded to BWP 29.5 million. The market activity was pushed up by traded volumes in Letshego which continued to dominate trading with 7,859,450 securities traded in light of it’s recent announcement for a share buyback of up to 10 percent of its stated capital.
The combined equity market capitalization settled at BWP 422,556 million recorded at the end of the day’s session with the Domestic Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 51,905.38 million and the Foreign Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 370,650.94 million.
Looking at the price movers’, there were 3 Domestic companies that recorded price changes to the green zone. Moving towards the green zone were Barclays up BWP 2 to close the day at BWP 436 per share, Letlole up BWP 1 to close the day at BWP 223 per share and LETSHEGO up BWP 21 to close at BWP 350 per share.
