Botswana Equity Watch | 31st July 2015: Botswana equity markets indices DCI down -14bps, LASI down -0.13.%, all ETF’s see red…
Botswana (Capital Markets in Africa):– The BSE Equity Markets indices recorded further decreases in todays session as the DCI main recorded a fall and local LASI indices also recorded a slight fall. The FCI index however recorded no change once again.
The Botswana Domestic Composite Index (DCI) fell to close at BWP 10,936.44 down -14.00 points from its previous close of BWP 10,950.01 (-0.12 percent).
The Foreign Composite Index (FCI) recorded no change and remained the same today settling at 1571.27.
The Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) recorded a fall of -0.13 points closing at 800.02 , a 0.02 percent dip from its previous close of 800.15 (LASI is made up of the domestic companies and all foreign companies awarded the local asset status by the Ministry of Finance and development planning).
From a market activity perspective, the daily volume settled at 184,216 shares traded which were exchanged from the 11,461 million Securities issued bringing the turnover of those shares traded to BWP 51,841 million. The market activity was pushed up by traded volumes in FSG (55,000), Cresta (47,931) and Letshego (34,422) which continued to dominate trading.
The combined equity market capitalization settled at BWP 422,492 million recorded at the end of the day’s session with the Domestic Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 51,841 million and the Foreign Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 370,350.94 million.
Looking at the price movers’, there were 3 Domestic companies that recorded price changes to the green zone. Moving towards the green zone were Barclays up BWP 1 to close the day at BWP 437 per share, Chobe up BWP 12 to close the day at BWP 612 per share and Choppies up BWP 5 to close at BWP 495 per share.
In the red zone was FNBB falling BWP 2 to close BWP 390.
The foreign companies on the Exchange Traded Funds all saw red. Betabeta was down -40 points to 4090 points, Newport was down -640 points to settle at 10,450 and Newplat lost -50 points to settle at 9900 points.
