Botswana Equity Watch | 4th Aug 2015: Botswana equity markets indices on the rise, DCI up 18 bps, LASI up 0.17bps……
Botswana (Capital Markets in Africa):- The BSE Equity Markets indices continued to rise in todays session as the DCI main recorded was up and local LASI indices also recorded an upward movement. The FCI index once again recorded no change.
The Botswana Domestic Composite Index (DCI) rose by 18 points to close at BWP 10,958.54 up by 0.16 percent from its previous close of BWP 10,940.80.
The Foreign Composite Index (FCI) recorded no change and remained the same today closing on 1571.27.
The Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) recorded a rise of 0.17 points closing at 800.23, a 0.02 percent increase from its previous close of 800.06. (LASI is made up of the domestic companies and all foreign companies awarded the local asset status by the Ministry of Finance and development planning).
The Domestic financial Sector index (DFSI) which is composed of all domestic financial sector companies was up 2.11 points to 1276.43 points, a 0.17 percent rise from its previous close of 1274.23 points.
From a market activity perspective, the total daily volume settled at 2,330,719 shares traded which were exchanged from the 25,712 million Securities issued bringing the total turnover of those shares traded on the domestic and foreign main boards to BWP 9,835,587.42 million. The market capitalisation settled at BWP 422,596.77 at the end of the day’s session with the Domestic Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 51,945.83 million and the Foreign Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 370,650.94 million.
The market activity in terms of traded volumes were lead by WIL (CA) who recorded the highest volume figures of 1,25,419 followed by Letshego with 1,002,648, Barclays with 41,212 and FNBB with 21,751.
Looking at the price movers’, there were 3 securities on the Domestic main board that recorded price changes to the green zone and 1 on the Foreign main board that recorded movement to the red zone.
Moving towards the green zone were Choppies up BWP 15 to close the day at BWP 510 per share, G4S up BWP 6 to close the day at BWP 355 per share and WIL up BWP 5 to close at BWP 480.
On the foreign companies main board NEWPLAT lost BWP -210 points to settle at 9690 points.
