Gaborone, Botswana (Capital Markets in Africa):- Shares of Domestic companies on the main board gained some traction today as the DCI main and local LASI indices recorded an increase minimal although the FCI continued with no change. The market capitalisation saw increases, along with price movements, helping to add to the positive sentiment.
The Botswana Domestic Composite Index (DCI) was up 13 points to close at BWP 10,705.96 up from its previous close of 10,692.96 gaining 0.12 percent.
The Foreign Composite Index (FCI) remained flat once again recording no change to close at 1,571.85 points again settling on the same points as the previous days session.
The Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) recorded an increase of 1.19 points closing 797.48 up 0.02 percent from its previous close of 797.36. (LASI is made up of the domestic companies and all foreign companies awarded the local asset status by the Ministry of Finance and development planning.)
From a market activity perspective, the daily volume settled at 468,123 shares traded and the turnover settled at BWP 2,244,752.73 for the 25.498 million Securities issued.
Likewise, the equity market capitalization saw an improvement of BWP 63 Million in this trading session to settle at BWP 421,205.82 up from the BWP 421,142.25 million recorded at the end of yesterday’s session.
Looking at the price movers’, 5 Domestic companies recorded price increases all towards the green zone. BARCLAYS was up BWP 1 to close the day at BWP 430, CHOBE gained BWP 28 to settle at BWP 596. CHOPPIES were up BWP 8 to close the day on BWP 490, FSG surge by BWP 1 to go to a close price of BWP 256 and LETSHEGO was up BWP 1 to close the day on BWP 321.
On the Losers side G4S went down by BWP -1 to close at BWP 349.
In terms of Volumes CHOPPIES registered 102,731 traded securities for the day for the 1,291,628,341 that it has issued enabling it to deliver a turnover of BWP 503,173.45. LETSHEGO also enjoyed considerable volumes as it registered 220,000 trades on its securities for the day pulling in a turnover of 706,000.00 for the BWP 2,184,901,665 securities it has issued.
In terms of Turnover STANCHART was a standout registering 647,185.46 for the 298,350,611 securities issued at BWP 1267.
