Gaborone, Botswana (Capital Markets in Africa):- Shares of Domestic companies listed on the BSE Equity Main Board continued on the up in Thursdays session as the DCI main and local LASI indices recorded further increases although the FCI again continued with no change. The market capitalisation also saw further increases, along with 7 price movements, helping to add to the positive sentiment which started earlier on in the week.
The Botswana Domestic Composite Index (DCI) was up 20 points to close at BWP 10,740.51 up 0.18 percent from its previous close of 10,721.48 registered in its previous days trading.
The Foreign Composite Index (FCI) remained flat registering no change to close once again at 1,571.83 points the same as on the previous days session.
The Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) was up 18 points closing at 797.80 up 0.02 percent from its previous close of 797.62. (LASI is made up of the domestic companies and all foreign companies awarded the local asset status by the Ministry of Finance and development planning.)
From a market activity perspective, the daily volume settled at 1,293,858 shares traded from the 25.498 million Securities issued, down by 705,393 share trades made in the previous days session while the turnover of those shares traded settled at BWP 4,187,516.74.
Likewise, the equity market capitalization saw an improvement of BWP 90 Million in this trading session to settle at BWP 421,366 up from the BWP 421,276 million recorded at the end of yesterday’s session.
Looking at the price movers’, 7 Domestic companies recorded price changes, 5 towards the green zone and 2 towards the red zone. Barclays was up BWP 1 to close the day at BWP 431, CHOPPIES was up BWP 3 to close at BWP 493, FNBB was up BWP 1 to close at BWP 321, LETSHEGO was up BWP 1 to close at BWP 321 and TURNSTAR gained BWP 1 to settle at BWP 250.
FURNMART and STANCHART however were down BWP -4 and BWP -1 to close the day on BWP 159 and 1266 respectively.
In terms of Volumes and Turnover LETSHEGO shares registered 1,259,500 traded securities for the day for the 2,184, 901,665 securities that it has issued enabling it to deliver a turnover of BWP 4,042,930 million.
