Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, Capital Markets in Africa — BRVM (The Regional Stock Exchange of eight West Africa) closed its trading session this Tuesday, lower than the previous day. BRVM 10 index decreased from 300.14 to 297.32 points, a drop of 0.94 percent. BRVM Composite index lost 0.66 percent at 296.68 points against 298.66 points previously.
The equity market capitalization lost XOF 49 billion (about US$84 million) to close at XOF 7,321 billion relative to previous trading sessions’ market capitalization of XOF 7,370 billion.
The market activity measured by total volume was recorded at 548,927 traded stocks relative to 175,801 recorded at previous trading sessions. The total traded value was at XOF 874.604 million (against XOF 1,981.752 million recorded at previous trading session) exchanged in 33 traded securities via 328 deals. Today’s top stock by volume was Ecobank Transnational Incorporated TOGO with 518,505 traded securities (accounted for about 94.46 percent of the total volume). SONATEL SENEGAL recorded the highest total traded value of XOF 392.032 million contributing nearly 44.82 percent of total traded value. The Liquidity ratio (measured by Volume traded/ Ask orders volume) ended at 51.67 percent and Price Earnings Ratio was recorded at 21.82.
From the market movers’ angle, out of the 33 traded securities today, 8 stocks experienced price gains, 14 witnessed price drops and 11 stocks price remained unchanged relative to previous closing price. BICI COTE D’IVOIRE emerged as the top price gainer by gaining 5.15 percent to end at XOF 100,000. AIR LIQUIDE COTE D’IVOIRE grew by 5.13 percent at XOF 20,500 and SERVAIR ABIDJAN COTE D’IVOIRE ended at XOF 80,000 after gaining 2.56 percent. UNIWAX COTE D’IVOIRE share price advanced by 1.80 percent to close at XOF 28,505 and BANK OF AFRICA NIGER with a closing price of XOF 85,000 after surging by 1.9 percent.
Conversely, NESTLE COTE D’IVOIRE plunged by 6.00 percent to settle at XOF 47,000 as the biggest loser and BERNABE COTE D’IVOIRE declined by 5.46 percent to trade at XOF 112.505. SAPH COTE D’IVOIRE sagged by 5.13 percent to close at XOF 11,100 and SICABLE COTE D’IVOIRE slipped by 4.76 percent to trade at XOF 100,000. ONATEL BURKINA FASO traded at XOF 13,000 after losing 4.41 percent.
From the sector indices viewpoints, the industry sector index fell by 0.40 percent at 160.80 points and public utilities sector index lost 1.08 percent to end at 823.37 points. Financial services sector index jumped by 0.48 percent to end at 108.06 points but distribution sector index sagged by 0.98 percent to end at 545.74 points. The agriculture sector index slipped by 2.82 percent to close at 185.46 points. Transportation sector index crashed by 2.48 percent to settle at 948.70 points and miscellaneous sector index added 1.11 percent to close at 561.73 points.
