Cote d’Ivoire Equity Watch | 17 Aug 2015 : BRVM closes lower, all sector indices down but agriculture sector index 3.47% up
Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire (Capital Markets in Africa):- BRVM (The Regional Stock Exchange of eight West Africa) closed its trading session this Monday, lower than the previous day. BRVM 10 index decreased from 309.56 to 308.42 points, a drop of 0.37 percent. BRVM Composite index lost 0.35 percent to 301.90 against 302.97 points previously.
The equity market capitalization plunged by XOF 26 billion (about US$66 million) to close at XOF 7,450 billion relative to previous trading sessions’ market capitalization of XOF 7,476 billion.
The market activity measured by total volume was recorded at 351,834 traded stocks relative to 140,714 recorded at previous trading sessions. The total traded value was at XOF 857.847 million (against XOF 890.872 million recorded at previous trading session) exchanged in 30 traded securities via 289 deals. Today’s top stock by volume was ECOBANK TRANSNATIONAL INCORPORATED TOGO with 319,135 traded securities (accounted for about 91 percent of the total volume). SONATEL SENEGAL recorded the highest total traded value of XOF 352.744 million contributing about 41 percent of total traded value. The Liquidity ratio (measured by Volume traded/ Ask orders volume) ended at 23.07 percent and Price Earnings Ratio was recorded at 23.18.
Among the 30 traded securities today, 7 stocks experienced price gains, 10 witnessed price drops and 13 stocks price remained flat relative to previous closing price, hence market strength ended negative. BANK OF AFRICA COTE D’IVOIRE was the top price gainer by adding 7.48 percent to end at XOF 115,000. Other gainers were SAPH COTE D’IVOIRE with a rise of 5.00 percent at XOF 12,500 and PALM COTE D’IVOIRE closed at XOF 16,400 by adding 4.46 percent. BERNABE COTE D’IVOIRE with a price increase of 1.52 percent to close at XOF 100,500 and SGB COTE D’IVOIRE ended at XOF 104,500 with 0.40 percent gains.
The five top losers were SITAB COTE D’IVOIRE dropped by 3.87 percent to settle at XOF 149,000 and ONATEL BURKINA FASO decreased by 2.76 percent to close at XOF 12,350. Likewise, SODE COTE D’IVOIRE went down by 2.50 percent to close at XOF 78,000 and BANK OF AFRICA BURKINA FASO declined by 2.44 percent to close at XOF 100,000. ECOBANK TRANSNATIONAL INCORPORATED TOGO with a closing price of XOF 59 after losing 1.67 percent.
From the sector indices viewpoints, the industry sector index sagged by 0.62 percent at 163.55 points and public utilities sector index plunged by 0.40 percent to close at 847.08 points. The distribution sector index fell by 0.11 percent to end at 527.24 points and financial services sector index declined by 0.74 percent to end at 109.57 points. The agriculture sector index slightly surged by 3.47 percent to close at 207.49 points. Transportation sector index remained unchanged to end at 901.36 points and miscellaneous sector indices stayed at 558.15 points.
