Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire (Capital Markets in Africa):- BRVM (The Regional Stock Exchange of eight West Africa) closed its trading session this Tuesday, lower than the previous day. BRVM 10 index decreased from 315.18 to 311.42 points, a drop of 1.19 percent. BRVM Composite index lost 0.86 percent to 301.22 against 303.83 points previously.
The equity market capitalization rose by XOF 64.40 billion to close at XOF 7,432.83 billion relative to previous trading sessions’ market capitalization of XOF 7,497.22 billion.
The market activity measured by total volume was thin today, with the total volume at 272,192 traded stocks compared to 314,575 recorded at previous trading sessions. The total traded value was at XOF 3,142 million (against XOF 2,654 million recorded at previous trading session) exchanged in 27 traded securities via 426 deals. Today’s top stock by volume was ECOBANK TRANSNATIONAL INCORPORATION Togo with 154,543 traded securities (accounted for about 57 percent of the total volume) with traded value of XOF 8.708 million. SONATEL Senegal recorded the highest total traded value of XOF 2,439 million contributing almost 77 percent of total traded value. The Liquidity ratio (measured by Volume traded/ Ask orders volume) ended at 16.04 percent and Price Earnings Ratio was recorded at 21.64.
Among the 27 traded securities today, 10 stocks experienced price gains, 9 witness price drops and 8 stocks price remained unchanged relative to previous closing price, hence market strength ended positive. AIR LIQUIDE COTE D’IVOIRE was the top price gainer after gaining 6.02 percent to end at XOF 21,500. It was followed by ONATEL BURKINA FASO with an increase of 5.44 percent at XOF 12,500 and then by SETAO COTE D’IVOIRE closed at XOF 45,000 by adding 4.65 percent. In the fourth position was PALM COTE D’IVOIRE with a price gain of 3.41 percent to close at XOF 14,995 and TOTAL COTE D’IVOIRE ended at XOF 23,000 with 2.22 percent to become the fifth gainer of the day.
On the contrary, ECOBANK TRANSNATIONAL INCORPORATION Togo plunged by 3.45 percent to settle at XOF 56 and SAPH COTE D’IVOIRE tumbled by 1.96 to close at XOF 12,500. Likewise, SONATEL SENEGAL went down 1.94 percent to close at XOF 28,250 and TOTAL COTE D’IVOIRE sagged by 1.72 percent to close at XOF 28,500. SGB COTE D’IVOIRE also went down by 1.00 percent to trade at XOF 100,000.
From the sector indices viewpoints, the public utilities sector index down by 0.96 percent and financial services sector index plunged by 1.96 percent. However, the industry sector index marginally rose by 0.09 percent to end at 162.34 points and agriculture sector index surged by 1.06 percent to close 203.42 points. The distribution sector index also increased by 0.71 percent to end at 520.68 points and the miscellaneous sector index advanced by 4.65 percent to end at 555.56 points. But, transportation sector index remained flat to close at 899.52 points.
