Cote d’Ivoire Equity Watch | 29 July 2015: Bear sentiment persistent on BRVM Bourse, composite index 0.54% falls
Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire (Capital Markets in Africa):- BRVM (The Regional Stock Exchange of eight West Africa) closed its trading session this Wednesday, lower than the previous day. BRVM 10 index decreased from 311.42 to 308.77 points, a drop of 0.85%. BRVM Composite index lost 0.54% to 299.58 against 301.22 points previously.
The equity market capitalization rose by XOF 40.6 billion to close at XOF 7,392.32 billion relative to previous trading sessions’ market capitalization of XOF 7,432.83 billion.
The market activity measured by total volume was weaker today, with the total volume at 203,893 traded stocks relative to 272,192 recorded at previous trading sessions. The total traded value was at XOF 1,719 million (against XOF 3,142 million recorded at previous trading session) exchanged in 30 traded securities via 495 deals. Today’s top stock by volume was ECOBANK TRANSNATIONAL INCORPORATION Togo with 147,187 traded securities (accounted for about 72 percent of the total volume) with traded value of XOF 7.985 million. SONATEL Senegal recorded the highest total traded value of XOF 633.72 million contributing almost 37 percent of total traded value. The Liquidity ratio (measured by Volume traded/ Ask orders volume) ended at 14.69 percent and Price Earnings Ratio was recorded at 21.6o.
Among the 30 traded securities today, 6 stocks experienced price gains, 16 witness price drops and 8 stocks price remained unchanged relative to previous closing price, hence market strength ended negative. CIE COTE D’IVOIRE was the top price gainer after gaining 5.64 percent to end at XOF 83,315. It was followed by TOTAL COTE D’IVOIRE with an increase of 2.17 percent at XOF 23,500 and then by BANK OF AFRICA BENIN closed at XOF 113,000 by adding 0.88 percent. In the fourth position was VIVO ENERGY COTE D’IVOIRE with a price gain of 0.75 percent to close at XOF 67,000 and SODE COTE D’IVOIRE ended at XOF 70,010 with 0.01 percent to become the fifth gainer of the day.
On the contrary, UNILEVER COTE D’IVOIRE fell by 6.90 percent to settle at XOF 24,890 and AIR LIQUIDE COTE D’IVOIRE tumbled by 5.67 to close at XOF 20,280. Likewise, PALM COTE D’IVOIRE went down 3.20 percent to close at XOF 14,515 and TOTAL SENEGAL sagged by 3.16 percent to close at XOF 27,600. BANK OF AFRICA NIGER also went down by 1.99 percent to trade at XOF 77,525.
From the sector indices viewpoints, the public utilities sector index down by 0.37 percent and financial services sector index plunged by 1.04 percent. Likewise, the industry sector index fell by 0.79 percent to end at 161.06 points and agriculture sector index sagged by 1.95 percent to close 199.46 points. However, distribution sector index increased by 0.54 percent to end at 523.47 points. The miscellaneous sector index remained unchanged at 555.56 points and transportation sector index remained flat to close at 899.52 points.
