Cote d’Ivoire Market Watch | June 10th 2015: BRVM equity market cap loses XOF 29 billion and indices plunge
Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire (Capital Markets in Africa):- BRVM (The Regional Stock Exchange of eight West Africa) closed its trading session this Wednesday, lower than the previous day. BRVM 10 index decreased from 277.74 to 274.48 points, a drop of 1.17%. BRVM Composite index lost 0.42% to 273.65 against 274.81 points previously. At the same time, the equity market capitalization fell by XOF 28.64 billion to close at XOF 6,752.47 billion compared with previous trading sessions’ market capitalization of XOF 6,781.11 billion.
In term of market activity, today trading activity declined in term volume and turnover compared to previous day. The total volume was recorded at 69,478 compared to volume of 824,820 recorded at previous trading sessions and total traded value was recorded at XOF 821.589 million (against XOF 864.463 million recorded at previous trading session). Out of the 39 listed securities 28 were traded in 218 transactions. In addition, today’s top stock by volume was ECOBANK TRANSNATIONAL INCORPORATION Togo with 35,446 traded shares (accounted for almost 51 percent of the total volume) and UNIWAX COTE D’IVOIRE recorded the highest turnover of XOF 309.781 million (accounted of nearly 38 percent). The Liquidity ratio (measured by Volume traded/ Ask orders volume) ended at 7.40 percent and Price Earnings Ratio was recorded at 19.98.
In term of the shakers and laggards, out of the 28 traded securities there were 12 price gainers, 9 laggards and 7 remained unchanged, hence market breathe end on a positive note. The price gainers were TOTAL COTE D’IVOIRE advanced by 7.49 percent to close at XOF 317,00 and UNIWAX COTE D’IVOIRE surged by 7.49 percent to conclude at XOF 29,640. Likewise, SOCIETE GENERALE COTE D’IVOIRE climbed by 6.90 percent to settle at XOF 31,000 and CFAO MOTORS COTE D’IVOIRE added 6.67 percent with a closing price of XOF 72,000.
On the laggards table, BANK of AFRICA BENIN declined by 5.93 percent to trade at XOF 111,000 and ECOBANK TRANS TOGO fell by 5.36 percent to close at XOF 53. Still on losers’ chart, SMB COTE D’IVOIRE and CIE COTE D’IVOIRE plummeted by 2.94 percent and 1.26 percent to close at XOF 16,000 and XOF 78,500 respectively.
From sector viewpoint, public utilities and financial services sector indices fell by 0.24 percent and 2.85 percent respectively. On the other hand, distribution sector index surged by 4.10 percent, agriculture sector index rose by 0.83 percent and industry section index gained 0.98 percent. While transportation sector index and miscellaneous sector index remained flat.
