PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — The Stock Exchange of Mauritius equity markets trading opened the week in red. The equity market capitalization ended at MUR 213.191 billion to lose MUR 99 million (about US$2.8 million) compared to previous market capitalization of MUR 213.290 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) went down by 0.05 percent or 0.90 points to close at 1,914.41 and SEM10 index added 0.12 percent or 0.43 points to end at 366.20 points. From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 1,137,820 (a reduction relative to volume of 5,076,948 recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 36.609 million (a decrease relative to MUR 61.899 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 726,448 (about 63.38 percent of total volume) at MUR 611,524 and New Mauritius Hotels registered 95,800 traded stocks amounted to MUR 1.724 million. Promotion And Development had 63,436 at MUR 6.152 million and MCB Group recorded a total volume of 61,825 shares at MUR 12.920 million. OMNICANE Limited also recorded 40,500 shares at MUR 2.714 million.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 25 traded securities there were 5 price gainers and 4 price losers, hence the market sentiment ended positive. POLICY Limited added 3.57 percent to end at MUR 6.96, Promotion And Development gained 1.04 percent to close at MUR 97.00, Air Mauritius Limited grew by 0.99 percent to settle at MUR 10.20, TERRA Mauricia Limited rose by 0.68 percent to trade at MUR 29.70 and MCG Group gathered 0.24 percent to end at MUR 209.00.
On the laggards’ chart, SBM Holdings closed at MUR 0.84 after sagging by 1.18 percent and LOTTOTECH slipped by 0.80 percent to settle at MUR 3.72. Also, GAMMA Civic Services sagged by 0.57 percent to settle at MUR 26.30 and Lux Island Resort plunged by 0.40 percent to end at MUR 62.25.
The DEMEX index closed at 205.74 points after losing 0.03 points or 0.01 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 50.588 billion after losing MUR 7 million (relative to MUR 50.595 billion recorded at previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 4.328 million exchanged in 187,723 traded securities. MEDINE Limited surged by 0.40 percent to trade at MUR 62.25 and CIEL Textile soared by 0.38 percent to end MUR 39.80. Whereas, Union Sugar Estate Company Limited lost 6.00 percent to settle at MUR 42.30.
