Mauritius Equity Markets | 09 Oct 2015 : Mauritius Equity Trading Ends in Red, SEMDEX 0.21% down, SEM10 index 0.14% lower
PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — The Stock Exchange of Mauritius equity markets trading closed the week in negative mood. The equity market capitalization ended at MUR 211.245 billion after giving up MUR 446 million (about US$13 million) compared to previous market capitalization of MUR 211.691 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) went down by 0.21 percent or 4.01 points to close at 1,896.93 and SEM10 index decreased by 0.14 percent or 0.51 points to end at 362.48 points.
From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 15,637,625 (a rise relative to volume of 5,076,948 recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 152.481 million (an increase relative to MUR 61.899 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 14,680,254 (about 86.20 percent of total volume) at MUR 12.034 million and MCB Group registered 632,961 traded stocks amounted to MUR 132.282 million. New Mauritius Hotel exchanged 201,700 shares at turnover of MUR 1.575 million and Mauritius Development Investment Trust recorded a total volume of 52,900 shares at MUR 268,758. LUX Island Resorts also recorded 44,434 shares at MUR 2.741 million.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 25 traded securities there were 2 price gainers and 11 price losers, hence the market sentiment ended negative. New Mauritius Hotel soared by 0.86 percent to end at MUR 17.65 and MCB Group surged by 0.24 percent to close at MUR 209.00.
On the laggards’ chart, GAMMA Civic closed at MUR 25.00 after sagging by 4.40 percent and SBM Holdings slipped by 1.20 percent to settle at MUR 0.82. Also, LOTTOTECH Limited sagged by 1.10 percent to settle at MUR 3.60, CIM Financial plunged by 0.99 percent to end at MUR 8.00 and Plastic Industry Mauritius Limited ended at MUR 70.00 after losing 0.71 percent.
The DEMEX index ended at 204.81 points after losing 0.40 points or 0.20 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 50.359 billion after decreasing by MUR 99 million (relative to MUR 50.458 billion recorded at previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 17.594 million exchanged in 709,792 traded securities. MEDINE Limited surged by 0.80 percent to trade at MUR 63.00. GAZ Industriels slacked by 4.57 percent to settle at MUR 94.00 and ENL Investment fell by 2.17 percent to end MUR 47.40 and SODIA sagged 1.61 percent to settle at MUR 15.25.
