PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — The bearish mood persisted as the Mauritius official market equity market capitalization ended at MUR 208.457 billion after dipping by MUR 416 million (about US$11.6 million) compared to the previous market capitalization of MUR 208.736 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) dropped 0.13 percent or 2.51 points to end at 1,871.86 and SEM10 index marginally fell by 0.12 points or 0.03 percent to close at 360.91 points.
In respect of the market activity, the overall total volume trade ended at 5,541,885 (a rise relatively to volume of 469,991 recorded at the previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 37.214 million (an increase relatively to MUR 7.157 million recorded at the previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings registered 4,635,204 (about 83 percent of total volume) at MUR 3.662 million and New Mauritius Hotels Limited registered 395,330 traded stocks amounted to MUR 7.116 million. Mauritius Development Investment Trust Limited recorded 162,500 at MUR 809,250 and Mauritius Oil Refinery Limited recorded a total volume of 95,600 shares at MUR 2.486 million. MCB Group Limited also recorded 92,741 shares at MUR 19.838 million.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, out of the 28 traded securities there were 7 price ups and 10 price downs, hence the market sentiment ended in the negative region. ENL Land Limited jumped by 0.54 percent to end at MUR 46.25, BLUELIFE Limited added 0.50 percent to end at MUR 4.04 and VIVO Energy Limited closed at MUR 110.00 after advancing by 0.46 percent. New Mauritius Hotels Limited grew by 0.28 percent to conclude at MUR 18.00 and CIM Financial Services Limited advanced by 0.26 percent to close at Mur 7.82.
In the negative zone, Mauritius Union Assurance sagged by 9.09 percent to close at MUR 60.00 and INNODIS Limited fell by 4.33 percent to end at MUR 42.00 and National Investment Trust dipped by 3.66 percent to end at MUR 39.50. Rogers & Co Limited traded at MUR 29.75 after dropping 0.83 percent. TERRA Limited plummeted by 0.35 percent to conclude at MUR 28.20.
The DEMEX index closed at 198.87 points by adding 0.07 points or 0.04 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 48.898 billion after gaining MUR 17 million (relatively to MUR 48.881 billion recorded at the previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 5.628 million exchanged in 363,237 traded securities. NOVUS Limited gained 6.28 percent to trade at MUR 7.34, EUDCOS Limited added 0.68 percent to end at MUR 14.80 and CIEL Textile Limited surged by 0.63 percent to close at MUR 40.00. But Tropical Paradise Co. Limited (Ordinary) settled at MUR 3.75 after sagging by 2.37 percent.
