Mauritius Equity Markets | 10 Sep 2015 : Stock Exchange of Mauritius SEMDEX index lower, DEMEX index higher
PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — On Thursday, the trading floor of the Stock Exchange of Mauritius was painted in red. The equity market capitalization closed at MUR 215.326 after losing MUR 521 million (US$15 million) relative to previous market capitalization of MUR 215.847 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) sagged by 0.24 percent or 4.67 points to close at 1,933.58 points and SEM10 index closed at 368.35 points after losing 0.32 percent or 1.19 points.
From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 21,291,586 (an increase relative to volume of 7,805,450 recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 64.429 million (a fall relative to MUR 96.219 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 19,156,024 (about 90 percent of total volume) at MUR 16.316 million and New Mauritius Hotels registered 1,281,410 traded stocks amounted to MUR 23.700 million. CIEL Limited had 500,000 at MUR 3.4 million and New Mauritius Hotels (Preference) recorded a total volume of 105,000 shares at MUR 1.176 million. MCB Group also recorded 73,388 shares at MUR 15.414 million.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, out of 21 traded securities there were 5 price gainers and 6 price losers, hence the market sentiment ends negative. Caudan Limited added 1.61 percent to end at MUR 1.26 and B Mare Holding ended at MUR 27.90 after surging by 1.45 percent. After adding 0.90 percent, New Mauritius Hotels (Preference) ended at MUR 11.20 and ENL Commercial soared by 0.74 percent to close at MUR 20.50. Bluelife Limited advanced by 0.47 with closing price of MUR 4.24.
On the losers’ chart, CIM Financial Services ended at MUR 8.40 after sagging by 1.18 percent, SBM Holdings fell by 1.16 percent to settle at MUR 0.85 and Alteo Limited declined by 1.06 percent to close at MUR 32.75. Rogers & Co. Limited plummeted by 0.83 to trade at MUR 29.75 and Mauritius Union Assurance plunged by 0.69 percent to end at MUR 71.50.
The DEMEX index ended at 204.30 points after adding 0.37 points or 0.18 percent. The market capitalization added MUR 88 million to close at MUR 48.554 billion (relative to MUR 48.466 billion recorded previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 4.638 million exchanged in 87,931 traded securities. Livestock (ordinary) surged by 2.92 percent to end at MUR 24.70, Swan Life Limited accelerated by 1.94 percent to close at MUR 1,000.00 and CIEL Textile Limited rose by 1.30 at MUR 39.00. Whereas, Bychemex Limited (-0.73 at MUR 8.20), Medine Limited (-0.39 at MUR 64.00) and United Investment (-0.38 percent at MUR 13.00).
