PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — Stock Exchange of Mauritius (SEM) was closed on Wednesday for Dwali celebration and ended today’s trading in the red zone. The Mauritius official market equity market capitalization ended at MUR 207.090 billion after dipping by MUR 1.34 million (about US$38.6 million) compared to the previous market capitalization of MUR 208.457 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) dropped 0.66 percent or 12.27 points to end at 1,859.59 and SEM10 index fell by 3.27 points or 0.91 percent to close at 357.64 points.
In respect of the market activity, the overall total volume trade ended at 14,173,334 (a rise relatively to a volume of 5,541,885 recorded at the previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 27.321 million (a fall relatively to MUR 37.214 million recorded at the previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings registered 12,569,993 (about 88.7 percent of total volume) at MUR 9.821 million and LOTTOTECH Limited registered 713,106 traded stocks amounted to MUR 2.146 million. Caudan Limited recorded 400,000 at MUR 496,000 and New Mauritius Hotels Limited recorded a total volume of 297,100 shares at MUR 5.348 million. Air Mauritius Limited also recorded 72,100 shares at MUR 793,630.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, out of the 23 traded securities there were 2 price ups and 7 price downs, hence the market sentiment ended in the negative region. Air Mauritius Limited jumped by 1.91 percent to end at MUR 10.65 and CIM Financial Services Limited surged by 0.51 percent to end at MUR 7.86.
In the red zone, LOTTOTECH Limited slid by 3.23 percent to close at MUR 3.00 and MCB Group Limited lower by 1.99 percent to end at MUR 209.75 and SBM Holdings Limited dipped by 1.27 percent to end at MUR 0.78. Sun Limited traded at MUR 35.50 after dropping 0.84 percent. Vivo Energy Limited plunged by 0.45 percent to end at MUR 109.50.
The DEMEX index closed at 198.82 points after dropping 0.06 points or 0.03 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 48.885 billion after losing MUR 13 million (relatively to MUR 48.898 billion recorded at the previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 2.552 million exchanged in 342,338 traded securities. NOVUS Limited lost 2.72 percent to trade at MUR 7.14, EUDCOS Limited fell by 0.68 percent to end at MUR 14.70 and Bychemex Limited sagged by 0.50 percent to close at MUR 7.90. Associated Commercial Company Limited settled at MUR 153.00 after sagging by 0.49 percent.
