PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — The negative sentiment persisted for to sixth consecutive trading session by opening the week on bearish mood. The equity market capitalization ended at MUR 210.694 billion after dropping MUR 551 million (about US$15.3 million) compared to previous market capitalization of MUR 211.245 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) sagged by 0.26 percent or 4.94 points to close at 1,891.99 and SEM10 index dropped 0.22 percent or 0.81 points to end at 361.99 points.
From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 3,976,960 (a fall relative to volume of 15,637,625 recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 183.911 million (a fall relative to MUR 152.481 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 2,156,938 (about 54.23 percent of total volume) at MUR 1.769 million and MCB Group registered 718,960 traded stocks amounted to MUR 150.260 million. New Mauritius Hotels traded 205,270 at MUR 3.690 million and ALTEO Limited recorded a total volume of 201,129 shares at MUR 6.938 million. TERRA Limited also recorded 178,805 shares at MUR 5.185 million.
Looking at the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 33 traded securities there were 3 price leaders and 8 price laggards, hence the market sentiment ended negative. Air Mauritius Limited gained 1.98 percent to end at MUR 10.30, New Mauritius Hotel soared by 1.70 percent to settle at MUR 17.95 and Union Basalt Product declined by 0.32 percent to trade at MUR 78.50.
On the laggards’ tablet, Swan General Limited closed at MUR 440.00 after sagging by 4.97 percent and Rogers & Co Limited slumped by 3.51 percent to settle at MUR 27.50. Also, B Mare Holdings fell by 1.43 percent to settle at MUR 27.50, Bluelife Limited plunged by 1.41 to trade at MUR 4.20 and ALTEO Limited declined by 1.16 percent to end at MUR 34.10.
The DEMEX index closed at 202.31 points after dropping 2.31 points or 1.13 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 49.792 billion after losing MUR 567 million (relative to MUR 50.359 billion recorded at previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 1.871 million exchanged in 158,752 traded securities. LES MOULINS (O) surged by 0.67 percent to trade at MUR 150.00 and ENL Investment gained 0.21 percent to end at MUR 47.50. However, Swan Life Limited dipped by 16.67 percent to end MUR 1,000.00 and SODIA Limited slipped by 1.69 percent to trade at MUR 0.58. Also, COVIFRA sagged by 1.41 percent to settle at MUR 7.00.
