PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — Bear mood persisted at the end of today’s trading session. The equity market capitalization ended at MUR 208.511 billion after dropping MUR 1.29 billion (about US$36.1 million) compared to previous market capitalization of MUR 209.798 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) sagged by 0.61 percent or 11.56 points to close at 1,872.38 and SEM10 index dropped 0.72 percent 2.57 points to end at 356.94 points.
From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 19,747,386 (a rise relative to volume of 10,885,385 recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 32.409 million (a fall relative to MUR 80.617 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings Limited recorded 19,078,337 (about 96.61 percent of total volume) at MUR 15.263 million and New Mauritius Hotels Limited registered 300,659 traded stocks amounted to MUR 5.271 million. CIM Financial Services traded 104,700 at MUR 816,910 and ENL Land Limited recorded a total volume of 50,000 shares at MUR 2.363 million. Lux Island Resorts Limited also recorded 47,956 shares at MUR 2.874 million.
Looking at the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 26 traded securities there were 5 price leaders and 11 price laggards, hence the market sentiment ended negative. GAMMA Civic added 2.00 percent to end at MUR 25.50, Air Mauritius Limited advanced by 0.96 percent to trade at MUR 10.50 and Rogers & Company Limited grew by 0.37 percent to close at MUR 27.00. Also, National Investment Trust ended at MUR 42.95 after adding 0.35 percent and New Mauritius Hotels Limited soared by 0.29 percent to trade at MUR 17.55. Whereas, LOTTOTECH Limited closed at MUR 3.45 after dropping 4.17 percent and Lux Island Resorts Limited slacked by 4.13 percent to end at MUR 58.00. Also, CIM Financial Services Limited sagged by 2.50 percent to settle at MUR 7.80, Mauritius Development Investment Trust declined by 2.00 percent to trade at MUR 4.90 and POLICY Limited tumbled by 1.45 percent to end at MUR 6.80.
The DEMEX index closed at 202.00 points after dropping 0.05 points or 0.03 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 49.669 billion after losing MUR 12 million (relative to MUR 49.681 billion recorded at previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 2.165 million exchanged in 120,687 traded securities. EN Investment (Preference) surged by 1.05 percent to trade at MUR 48.00. However, ENL Limited (Preference) lost 1.52 percent to end at MUR 26.00 and Constance Hotel dipped by 1.37 percent to end MUR 36.00.
