Mauritius Equity Markets | 16 Nov 2015: Bearish sentiment opens in the week … Market Capitalization of MUR 495 million lower
PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — The Stock Exchange of Mauritius equity markets trading opened the week in the negative region. The equity market capitalization ended at MUR 205.117 billion after dropping MUR 494.832 million (about US$13.9 million). The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) fell by 0.24 percent or 4.44 points to end at 1,850.44 and SEM10 index declined by 0.41 percent or 1.46 points to end at 355.01 points.
From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 2,081,041 (a fall relatively to a volume of 5,259,919 recorded at the previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 13.643 million (a fall relatively to MUR 146.090 million recorded at the previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 1,461,700 (about 70.2 percent of total volume) at MUR 1.126 million and CIEL Limited registered 245,000 traded stocks amounted to MUR 1.651 million. Rogers & Co Limited exchanged 122,200 shares at a turnover of MUR 3.543 million and New Mauritius Hotel recorded a total volume of 73,067 shares at MUR 1.315 million. Air Mauritius Limited also recorded 46,199 shares at MUR 492.604.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 28 traded securities there were 3 price gainers and 12 price losers, hence the market sentiment ended in the negative region. GEMMA CIVIC soared by 7.60 percent to end at MUR 26.90, TERRA Limited surged by 1.06 percent to close at MUR 28.50 and New Mauritius Hotels Limited (Preference) added 0.92 percent to settle at MUR 11.00.
On the laggards’ chart, Belle Mare Holdings Limited closed at MUR 26.20 after sagging by 2.96 percent and Rogers & Co Limited slipped by 2.71 percent to settle at MUR 28.70. Also, Sun Resorts Limited sagged by 1.42 percent to settle at MUR 34.75; Air Mauritius Limited plunged by 1.39 percent to end at MUR 10.65 and SBM Holdings Limited ended at MUR 0.77 after losing 1.28 percent.
The DEMEX index ended at 198.82 points after dipping by 0.14 points or 0.07 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 48.885 billion after dropping MUR 34 million relatively to the previous market capitalization of MUR 48.919 million. The total value traded was MUR 402,577 exchanged in 30,825 traded securities. ENL Investment Limited surged by 0.86 percent to trade at MUR 47.00 but United Investment Limited lost 1.89 percent to settle at MUR 13.00 and SODIA fell by 1.04 percent to end MUR 9.50 and EUDCOS sagged 0.68 percent to settle at MUR 14.70.
