Mauritius Equity Markets | 16 Oct 2015 : Mauritius Equity Ends in Red, Investors US$20 poorer, SEMDEX 0.34% lower
PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — Mauritius stocks stayed in the southern region through the week, hence ended in a bearish mood. The equity market capitalization ended at MUR 207.077 billion after dipping by MUR 703 million (about US$20 million) compared to previous market capitalization of MUR 207.780 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) sagged by 0.34 percent or 6.31 points to close at 1,859.50 and SEM10 index lost 0.32 percent 1.15 points to close at 354.54 points.
In respect of the market activity, the overall total volume trade ended at 4,068,347 (a fall relative to volume of 22,161,675 recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 31.177 million (a decreased relative to MUR 60.900 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings Limited recorded 3,488,600 (about 85.75 percent of total volume) at MUR 2.762 million and New Mauritius Hotels Limited registered 183,963 traded stocks amounted to MUR 3.309 million. MCB Group had 85,047 at MUR 17.440 million and TERRA Limited recorded a total volume of 80,285 shares at MUR 2.253 million. CIM Financial Services Limited also recorded 74,800 shares at MUR 583,440.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, out of the 25 traded securities there were 3 price leaders and 15 price losers, hence the market sentiment ended negative. New Mauritius Hotels advanced by 2.56 percent to end at MUR 18.00, Mauritius Oil & Refinery Limited surged by 0.95 percent to close at MUR 26.50 and Lux Island Resorts Limited soared by 0.44 percent to trade at MUR 57.25. In the negative zone, Automatic Systems Limited traded at MUR 41.00 by dropping 9.13 percent and LOTTOTECH Limited slumped by 3.77 percent to close at MUR 3.32. Also, TERRA Limited waned by 2.95 percent to settle at MUR 28.00, ENL Land Limited (Preference) plunged by 2.50 percent to trade at MUR 39.00 and BLUELIFE Limited dipped by 2.40 percent to end at MUR 4.06.
The DEMEX index closed at 201.00 points after sagging by 0.14 points or 0.07 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 49.423 billion after dropping MUR 36 million (relative to MUR 49.459 billion recorded at previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 1.563 million exchanged in 153,834 traded securities. ENL Investment added 0.11 percent to trade at MUR 46.00 but MFD Group Limited declined by 1.83 to end at MUR 10.70 and CIEL Textile Limited lost 0.25 percent to end at MUR 39.80.
