PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — The Stock Exchange of Mauritius equity markets continued in the red zone. The equity market capitalization ended at MUR 205.117 billion after dropping MUR 1.5 billion (about US$37.7 million) relatively to the previous market capitalization of MUR 206.566. The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) sagged by 0.46 percent or 8.57 points to end at 1,841.87 and SEM10 index plunged by 0.48 percent or 1.69 points to end at 353.32 points.
From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 7,566,084 (a fall relatively to a volume of 2,081,041 recorded at the previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 42.435 million (a rise relatively to MUR 13.643 million recorded at the previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 6,845,737 (about 89.5 percent of total volume) at MUR 5.271 million and CIEL Limited registered 271,612 traded stocks amounted to MUR 1.825 million. MCB Group Limited exchanged 113,800 shares at a turnover of MUR 23.622 million and New Mauritius Hotel recorded a total volume of 103,587 shares at MUR 1.859 million. CIM Financial Services Limited also recorded 85,000 shares at MUR 668,100.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 26 traded securities there were 2 price gainers and 12 price losers, hence the market sentiment ended in the negative region. Belle Mare Holdings Limited grew by 0.38 percent to end at MUR 26.30 and BLUELIFE Limited added 0.25 percent to close at MUR 4.04. On the losers’ chart, GAMMA Civic Limited ended at MUR 25.00 after dropping 7.06 percent and LUX Island Resorts Limited sagged by 1.32 percent to settle at MUR 56.25. Also, SBM Holdings Limited slid by 1.30 percent to end at MUR 0.76; FINCORP Investment Limited lost 1.13 percent to end at MUR 17.50 and Rogers & Co Limited closed at MUR 28.50 after losing 0.70 percent.
The DEMEX index closed at 198.67 points after dropping 0.15 points or 0.08 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 48.849 billion after dropping MUR 36 million relatively to the previous market capitalization of MUR 48.885 million. The total value traded was MUR 714,385 exchanged in 21,792 traded securities. FIDES Limited sagged by 1.47 percent to trade at MUR 67.00, CONSTANCE Limited lost 0.99 percent to settle at MUR 100.00 and CIEL Textile Limited fell by 0.62 percent to end MUR 39.75. and EUDCOS sagged 0.68 percent to settle at MUR 14.70.
