PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — The equity market capitalization closed at MUR 213.495 after losing MUR 181 million (US$5.1 million) relative to previous market capitalization of MUR 213.676 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) plummeted by 0.08 percent or 1.63 points to close at 1,917.14 points and SEM10 index closed at 365.14 points after losing 0.01 percent or 0.04 points.
From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 3,971,910 (a reduction relative to volume of 33,643,685 recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 68.242 million (a rise relative to MUR 102.635 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 2,683,401 (about 68 percent of total volume) at MUR 2.281 million and New Mauritius Hotels registered 593,600 traded stocks amounted to MUR 10.731 million. Mauritius Development Investment & Trust had 129,400 at MUR 660,748 and MCB Group recorded a total volume of 91,400 shares at MUR 19.103 million. CIM Financial Services also recorded 63,000 shares at MUR 522,900.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, out of 32 traded securities there were 4 price gainers and 11 price losers, hence the market sentiment ends negative. POLICY Mauritius Limited rose by 1.21 percent to end at MUR 6.70, Alteo Limited ended at MUR 33.00 after gaining 0.76 percent, Union Basalt Products Limited surged by 0.32 percent to close at MUR 68.23 and CEIL Limited grew by 0.30 percent to close at MUR 6.72.
On the other hand, Bluelife Limited closed at MUR 4.24 after losing 3.64 percent, Air Mauritius crashed by 2.91 percent to settle at MUR 10.00 and Mauritius Oil & Refinery slumped by 1.82 percent to close at MUR 27.00. Innodis Limited plunged by 1.64 percent to trade at MUR 48.00 and Mauritius Development Investment Trust sagged by 1.54 percent to end at MUR 5.10.
The DEMEX index ended at 208.83 points after falling by 0.35 points or 0.17 percent. The market capitalization dropped MUR 84 million to close at MUR 49.632 billion (relative to MUR 49.716 billion recorded previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 5.685 million exchanged in 359,922 traded securities. United Investment soared by 0.38 percent to close at MUR 13.30 and EUDCOS Mauritius gained 1.65 percent to close at MUR 15.40. Whereas, UTD BUS Service fell by 15.00 percent to trade at MUR 32.30, Forges Tardieu Mauritius Limited tumbled by 10.12 percent to settle at MUR 155.50 and FIDES sagged by 6.09 percent to trade at MUR 65.50.
