PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — Negative sentiment persisted on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius equity markets at the end of Thursday’s trading session. The equity market capitalization closed at MUR 203.293 billion after losing MUR 1.7 billion (about US$44 million) relatively to the previous market capitalization of MUR 205.117. The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) dipped by 0.37 percent or 6.72 points to end at 1,825.49 and SEM10 index plummeted by 0.44 percent or 1.55 points to close at 349.50 points.
From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 5,040,424 (a fall relatively to a volume of 7,566,084 recorded at the previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 62.048 million (a rise relatively to MUR 42.435 million recorded at the previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 4,157,867 (about 82.5 percent of total volume) at MUR 3.120 million and MCB Group registered 251,616 traded stocks amounted to MUR 51.581 million. CIM Financial Services Limited exchanged 216,600 shares at a turnover of MUR 1.685 million and New Mauritius Hotel recorded a total volume of 197,453 shares at MUR 3.505 million. Mauritius Development Investment Trust also recorded 116,798 shares at MUR 570,935.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 22 traded securities there were 3 price gainers and 11 price losers, hence the market sentiment ended in the negative region. Mauritius Union Assurance edged up by 1.64 percent to end at MUR 62.00, LOTTOTECH Limited added 1.32 percent to close at MUR 4.04 and Air Mauritius Limited closed at MUR 10.60 after gaining 0.95 percent. On the losers’ chart, Mauritius Development Investment Trust Limited closed at MUR 4.80 after sagging by 2.64 percent and LUX Island Resorts Limited dipped by 1.79 percent to settle at MUR 55.00. Also, OMNICANE Limited slumped by 1.52 percent to end at MUR 65.00; SBM Holdings Limited lost 1.32 percent to end at MUR 65.00 and ALTEO Limited closed at MUR 33.50 after dropping 1.18 percent.
The DEMEX index closed at 198.10 points after dropping 0.52 points or 0.26 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 48.708 billion after dropping MUR 141 million relatively to the previous market capitalization of MUR 48.849 million. The total value traded was MUR 3.698 exchanged in 100,927 traded securities. SODIA Limited gained 1.72 percent to trade at MUR 0.59. CIEL Textile Limited dropped 1.89 percent to settle at MUR 39.00, ENL Limited (Preference) lost 0.98 percent to end MUR 25.25 and MEDINE Limited sagged by 0.81 percent to settle at MUR 61.70.
