PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — The Stock Exchanges of Mauritius opened the week on a bullish sentiments after in the red for ten consecutive trading days. The equity market capitalization ended at MUR 207.704 billion after gaining MUR 627 million (about US$17.8 million) compared to previous market capitalization of MUR 207.077 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) added 0.30 percent or 5.64 points to close at 1,865.14 and SEM10 index advanced by 0.50 percent or 1.78 points to close at 356.32 points.
In respect of the market activity, the overall total volume trade ended at 1,531,308 (a fall relative to volume of 4,068,347 recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 7.349 million (a decreased relative to MUR 31.177 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings Limited recorded 1,190,500 (about 77.72 percent of total volume) at MUR 941,500 and Mauritius Development Investment Trust registered 105,134 traded stocks amounted to MUR 515,550. New Mauritius Hotels Limited had 61,400 at MUR 1.105 million and LOTTOTECH Limited recorded a total volume of 43,650 shares at MUR 144,285. ALTEO Limited also recorded 35,555 shares at MUR 1.209 million.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, out of the 25 traded securities there were 6 price leaders and 6 price losers, hence the market sentiment ended neutral. Mauritius Development Investment Trust advanced by 2.04 percent to end at MUR 5.00, SBM Holdings Limited surged by 1.27 percent to close at MUR 0.80 and MCB Group soared by 0.73 percent to trade at MUR 207.00. Also, Automatic Systems Limited traded at MUR 42.00 by gaining 0.48 percent and Rogers & Co Limited jumped by 0.37 percent to close at MUR 27.20.
Conversely, Mauritius Eagle Insurance Company Limited waned by 3.03 percent to settle at MUR 96.00, Harel Maliac Limited plunged by 2.79 percent to trade at MUR 95.75 and VIVO Energy Limited dipped by 0.87 percent to end at MUR 114.00. Sun Limited ended at MUR 36.50 by losing 0.69 percent and LOTTOTECH Limited closed at MUR 3.30 after losing 0.60 percent.
The DEMEX index closed at 200.94 points after sagging by 0.06 points or 0.03 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 49.408 billion after dropping MUR 15 million (relative to MUR 49.423 billion recorded at previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 11.234 million exchanged in 53,998 traded securities.
