PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — The Stock Exchange of Mauritius began the week on a positive momentum and the equity market capitalization closed at MUR 213.725 after gaining MUR 230 million (US$6.4 million) relative to previous market capitalization of MUR 213.495 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) surged by 0.11 percent or 2.07 points to close at 1,919.20 points and SEM10 index closed at 366.10 points after adding 0.26 percent or 0.96 points.
From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 2,373,799 (a reduction relative to volume of 3,971,910 recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 16.692 million (a rise relative to MUR 68.242 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 1,902,600 (about 80 percent of total volume) at MUR 164,478 and CIEL Limited registered 91,000 traded stocks amounted to MUR 609,700. New Mauritius Hotels had 72,700 at MUR 1.309 million and Mauritius Union Assurance Right issues recorded a total volume of 69,368 shares at MUR 198,303. CIM Financial Services also recorded 60,000 shares at MUR 498,000.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, out of 28 traded securities there were 7 price gainers and 8 price losers, hence the market sentiment ends negative. Mauritius Oil & Refinery gained by 1.85 percent to end at MUR 27.50, Lottotech Limited ended at MUR 3.90 after adding 1.30 percent, Alteo Mauritius Limited rose by 1.21 percent to close at MUR 33.40 and SBM Holdings grew by 1.18 percent to close at MUR 0.86. After gaining 0.53 percent, Promotion And Development ended at MUR 95.50.
On the other hand, Mauritius Union Assurance closed at MUR 68.00 after losing 2.86 percent, H. MALLAC crashed by 1.98 percent to settle at MUR 99.00 and OMNICANE Limited slumped by 1.41 percent to close at MUR 70.00. ENL Limited Limited plunged by 0.62 percent to trade at MUR 40.00 and Sun Resorts Limited sagged by 0.52 percent to end at MUR 38.50.
The DEMEX index ended at 208.43 points after falling by 0.41 points or 0.41 percent. The market capitalization dropped MUR 96 million to close at MUR 49.632 billion (relative to MUR 49.526 billion recorded previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 3.588 million exchanged in 163,947 traded securities. Union SUG Estate fell by 10.00 percent to trade at MUR 45.00, SODIA tumbled by 3.03 percent to settle at MUR 0.32 and ENL Limited (Preference) sagged by 0.18 percent to trade at MUR 28.25.
