PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — The Bullish momentum returned to the Stock Exchange of Mauritius equity trading at the end of Thursday’s trading session. As a result the equity market capitalization closed lower at MUR 213.182 billion by losing MUR 9 million (US$251,397) relative to previous market capitalization of MUR 213.191 billion.
However, the Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) marginally fell by 0.08 points to close at 1,914.32 and SEM10 index gained 0.12 percent or 0.44 points to end at 365.26 points.
From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 1,732,834 (a fall relative to volume of 3,878,819 recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 40.316 million (a fall relative to MUR 63.110 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were New Mauritius Hotel recorded 945,770 (about 54.60 percent of total volume) at MUR 16.553 million and CIEL Limited registered 473,000 traded stocks amounted to MUR 3.160 million. TERRA Limited had 64,200 at MUR 1.894 million and MCB Group recorded a total volume of 61,143 shares at MUR 12.707 million. CIM Financial Services Limited also recorded 52,900 shares at MUR 439,070 million.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, out of 23 traded securities there were 4 price gainers and 11 price losers, hence the market sentiment ends negative. SBM Holdings Limited gained 1.18 percent to end at MUR 0.86, United Docks Limited ended at MUR 71.00 after adding 0.71 percent, ALTEO Limited soared by 0.30 percent to close at MUR 33.70 and MCB Group soared by 0.12 percent with a closing price of MUR 208.00.
On the other hand, GAMMA Civic Limited ended at MUR 27.00 after losing 1.82 percent, INNODIS Limited sagged by 1.06 percent to settle at MUR 46.50 and ENL Land Limited slumped by 1.03 percent to close at MUR 48.00. Mauritius Eagle Insurance Limited plunged by 1.00 percent to trade at MUR 99.00 and New Mauritius Hotels fell by 0.85 percent to end at MUR 17.50.
The DEMEX index ended at 207.73 points after slightly gained by 0.01 points. The market capitalization lost MUR 3 million to close at MUR 51.075 billion (relative to MUR 51.072 billion recorded previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 1.353 million exchanged in 40,580 traded securities. SODIA surged by 6.25 percent to trade at MUR 0.34, EUDCOS added 0.65 percent to settle at MUR 15.50. Whereas, VITAL WATER BOAT fell by 2.49 percent to trade at MUR 49.00, ENL Limited (Preference) sagged by 0.88 percent to settle at MUR 28.00 and Constance Hotel Limited crashed by 0.41 percent to trade at MUR 36.50.
