Port Louis, Mauritius (Capital Markets in Africa) — The bear conquered the bull at the end of today’s equity trading session 1t the Stock Exchange of Mauritius. The market capitalization went down by MUR 553 million (US$8.5 million) to close at MUR 219.656 billion relative to previous market capitalization of MUR 219.103 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) fell by 0.20 percent or 4.02 points to close at 1,966.43 points and the SEM10 index closed at 376.28 points after sagging by 0.96 points or 0.25 percent.
Today’s overall total volume trade ended at 77.096 million (a rise of 99 percent compared to 38.718 million recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 86.414 million (a fall relative to MUR 140.742 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 76.512 million (about 99 percent of total volume) at MUR 65.824 million and New Mauritius Hotels registered 118,626 traded stocks amounted to MUR 2.206 million. Lottotech Limited had 60,500 stocks at MUR 245,185 million and CIEL Limited recorded a total volume of 55,066 shares at MUR 378,854 million. POLICY also recorded 50,600 shares at MUR 345,204 million.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 29 traded securities there were 5 price advancers and 9 price decliners as well as 15 remained unchanged. The price gainers were Promotion & Development Limited advanced by 1.05 percent to end at MUR 96.00 and VIVO Energy Limited closed at MUR 121.00 after gaining 0.62 percent. Alteo Limited also surged by 0.62 percent to end at MUR 32.30 and Lux Island Resorts climbed by 0.40 percent to settle at MUR 63.25. POLICY Mauritius also jumped by 0.29 percent to end at MUR 0.29.
On the contrary, the loser was Lottotech Limited with a price reduction of 4.78 percent to trade at MUR 3.98. Air Mauritius Limited sagged by 3.64 percent to conclude at MUR 10.60 and Rogers & Co Limited tumbled by 1.23 percent to end at MUR 32.00. SBM Holdings settled at MUR 0.86 after sliding by MUR 0.01 or 1.15 percent.
The DEMEX index added 0.76 points or 0.37 percent to close at 206.41 points. The market capitalization advanced by MUR 179 million to close at MUR 49,055 (relative to MUR 48.876 billion recorded previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 3.764 million exchanged in 138,035 traded securities. Excelsior United Development Companies Limited added 1.33 percent to end at MUR 15.20. SIT Land Hedge Option also gained 4.17 percent to trade at MUR 12,500 and CIEL Textile Limited closed at MUR 39.00 after advancing by 1.56 percent. Whereas Bharat Telecommunication plunged by 3.85 percent to end at MUR 10.00 and Bychemex Limited ended at MUR 8.26 by losing 0.48 percent and Southern Cross Tourist Company Limited fell by 0.31 percent by closing at MUR 6.44.
