Port Louis, Mauritius (Capital Markets in Africa) — Bearish mood continued at the end of trading session today. The equity market capitalization sagged by MUR 827 million (US$12.7 million) to close at MUR 218.200 billion relative to previous market capitalization of MUR 219.027 billion. On a week-on-week basis, the market capitalization lost about MUR 291 million or US$4.5 million.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) plummeted by 0.38 percent or 7.42 points to close at 1,959.39 points. SEM10 index ended at 374.31 points after declined by 7.42 points or 0.38 percent.
The overall total volume trade ended at 5.002 million (a gain relative to volume of 4.930 recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 38.422 million (an increase relative to MUR 63.035 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 4.622 million (about 92 percent of total volume) at MUR 3.993 million and MCB Group registered 140,610 traded stocks amounted to MUR 30.281 million. Lottotech Limited had 113,500 stocks at MUR 448,690 and CIEL Limited recorded a total volume of 29,400 shares at MUR 202,272. Mauritius Development Investment Trust also recorded 25,400 shares at MUR 132,080.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 25 traded securities there were 3 price advancers and 10 price decliners as well as 12 remained unchanged. The price gainers were Air Mauritius Limited advanced by 2.80 percent to end at MUR 11.00 and Sun Resorts Mauritius closed at MUR 39.50 after gaining 1.28 percent. National Investment Trust also surged by 1.20 percent to end at MUR 42.00.
On the contrary, the loser was Innodis Limited with a price reduction of 1.90 percent to trade at MUR 2.46. Gamma Civic sagged by 1.75 percent to conclude at MUR 28.00 and Omnicane Limited fell by 1.39 percent to end at MUR 71.00. SMB Holdings settled at MUR 1.35 after sliding by MUR 0.01 or 1.15 percent.
The DEMEX index ended at 206.48 points after marginally adds 0.01 points. The market capitalization slightly fell by MUR 1 million to close at MUR 49,072 (relative to MUR 49,073 billion recorded previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 14.234 million exchanged in 208,010 traded securities.
