Mauritius Equity Watch | 21 July 2015: Equity markets end in red … SEMDEX 15bps and market cap MUR 327 million falls
Port Louis, Mauritius (Capital Markets in Africa):- Mauritius equity markets returned to negative region at end of today’s trading session. The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) lost 0.15 percent or 2.94 points to close at 1,952.90 points and the SEM10 index closed at 372.68 points by losing 0.58 points or 0.16 percent.
In the same note, the market capitalization settled at MUR 217.118 billion (relative to yesterday’s market capitalization of MUR 217.445 billion) by giving away MUR 327 million. The overall total volume trade was registered at 24.140 million (an increase when compared to 2.042 million recorded yesterday). The total valued traded was settled at MUR 92.666 million (a decrease when compared to MUR 28.070 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SBM Holdings Mauritius had 18.125 million at MUR 15.768 million and Mauritius Oil & Refineries Limited recorded 5.503 million traded stocks amounted to MUR 27.523 million. MCB Group traded 195,172 stocks at MUR 41.983 million and ALTEO Limited ended with a total volume of 81,214 at MUR 2.607 million.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among 27 traded securities there were 2 price gainers and 9 price losers. The two prices advancers were Air Mauritius Limited surged by 0.95 percent with a closing price of MUR 10.60 and MCB Group Limited ended at MUR 215.50 by adding 0.23 percent.
B Marie Holdings emerged as the top loser to close at MUR 29.00 by falling by 3.17 percent. Other price losers were New Mauritius Hotels (tumbled by 1.55 percent to trade at MUR 19.00), National Investment Trust Limited (plunged by 1.20 percent to settle at MUR 41.00) and Rogers Limited (plummeted by 1.17 percent to end at MUR 29.50). In addition, CIEL Limited lost 0.57 percent to conclude at MUR 6.92 and Bluelife Limited slumped by 0.45 percent to end at MUR 4.40.
The DEMEX index marginally fell by 0.02 percent or 0.05 points to close at 207.59 points. Likewise, the market capitalization fell by MUR 12 million to close at MUR 49.316 (against MUR 49.328 billion recorded yesterday). The total value traded was MUR 16.581 million exchanged in 455,456 traded securities. Medical & Surgical Centre Limited added 6.12 percent to trade at MUR 2.60, SIT LAND Holdings Option surged by 1.63 percent to close at MUR 12,500.00. However, ABC Motors plummeted by 10.22 percent to close MUR 83.50, United Investment fell by 1.51 percent to end at MUR 13.05 and HOTELEST Limited ended at MUR 37.00 after losing 0.40 percent.
