Mauritius Equity Watch | 25 Aug 2015 : Mauritius equities end in red again, market cap US$43 million lower
Port Louis, Mauritius (Capital Markets in Africa) — Stock Exchange of Mauritius continued on the downward path. The equity market capitalization ended at MUR 216.442 billion after sagging by MUR 1.5 billion (US$43 million) relative to previous market capitalization of MUR 217.954 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) fell by 0.69 percent or 13.57 points to close at 1,943.60 points and SEM10 index ended at 370.77 points after plunging by 0.88 percent or 3.27 points.
The overall total volume trade ended at 8.906 million (a slightly fall relative to volume of 8.113 million recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 97.779 million (a rise relative to MUR 24.183 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 7.244 million (about 89 percent of total volume) at MUR 6.175 million and New Mauritius Hotels registered 729,911 million traded stocks amounted to MUR 13.519 million. MCB Group had 242,971 stocks at MUR 51.780 million and United Docks Limited recorded a total volume of 190,015 shares at MUR 12.731 million. CIEL Limited also recorded 143,638 shares at MUR 962,361.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 26 traded securities there were 2 price advancers and 13 price decliners. The price gainers were Newgold ETF advanced by 4.10 percent to end at MUR 381.00 and Mauritius Development Investment Trust closed at MUR 5.10 after gaining 1.59 percent.
On the contrary, the loser was Rogers & Co. Limited with a price reduction of 3.57 percent to trade at MUR 29.70. Mauritius Union Assurance sagged by 2.08 percent to conclude at MUR 70.50 and Fincorp fell by 2.00 percent to end at MUR 19.60. Gamma Civic Limited settled at MUR 27.50 after sliding by MUR 0.50 or 1.79 percent.
The DEMEX index ended at 206.43 points after marginally lost 0.05 points or 0.03 percent. The market capitalization slightly fell by MUR 12 million to close at MUR 49.062 (relative to MUR 49.074 billion recorded previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 15.981 million exchanged in 140,071 traded securities. Swan Life Limited added 0.63 percent to end at MUR 956.00 but EUDCOS closed at MUR 15.70 after declining by 1.26 percent.
