Mauritius Market Watch | May 28th 2015: More blood on the Mauritius equity market Street
Port Louis, Mauritius (Capital Markets in Africa):- Mauritius equity market indices closed on a negative note today. The SEMDEX lost 0.35 percent to 1956.13 points and the SEM10 lost 0.57 percent to 371.09 points. Total market turnover amounted to MUR 45.3m mainly geared towards SBM Holdings and CIEL which accounted for 58.9 percent of total market turnover. SBM Holdings traded flat at MUR 0.93 on 19.0 million shares exchanged. CIEL lost 2.7 percent to MUR 7.10 at which price it witnessed two significant crosses of 800,000 and 400,000 shares.
In addition, MCB Group fell by 0.60 percent to MUR 202.50 on a total volume traded 19,700 shares and financial company CIM Financial Services lost 0.4 percent to Rs9.80 on a total volume of 12,100 shares. Among the industrial companies, Gamma was the top performer (+3.1 percent) reaching MUR 29.90 on only 400 shares traded. United Basalt Products experienced a decrease of 2.6 percent compared to its ex-div reference price of MUR 87.25 to conclude at MUR 85.00 on total volume of 7,700 shares.
On the hotel counter, Lux Island Resorts Mauritius gained 0.4 percent to MUR 61.75 on a total volume of 10,600 shares and Sun Resorts also saw an increase of 2.4 percent in its share price to reach MUR 43.40 on a total volume of 85,900 shares. While the largest hotel group New Mauritius Hotels traded flat at 63.00 on a total volume of 6,400 shares. Rogers shed off 0.7 percent during the session to Mur 30.00.
Furthermore, Mauritius Development & investment Trust (MDIT) gained 0.6 percent to closer at MUR 4.98, the stock reached a high of Mur 5.00 before closing at MUR 4.98 on a volume of 93,700 shares. National Investment Trust Ltd went up by 0.6 percent to close at MUR 44.50 on a volume of 22,300 shares. Finally, Policy lost 0.3 percent to MUR 7.68 on a total volume of 65,500 shares while property developer Bluelife Limited lost 0.8 percent to MUR 4.80 on a total volume of 2,600 shares.
On the DEM, the index went down by 0.25 percent to reach 205.08 points. Market turnover amounted to MUR 20.6 million mainly geared towards Medine (O) which accounted for 88.7 percent of total market turnover. Medical and Surgical traded at its last cum div today. The stock reached a low of MUR before closing higher at MUR 2.45.
