Mauritius Market Watch | May 29th 2015: Mauritius equity market indices ended the week on a negative note today
Port Louis, Mauritius (Capital Markets in Africa):- Mauritius equity market indices ended the week on a negative note today. The SEMDEX index lost 0.21 percent to end at 1952.00 points and the SEM10 index fell by 0.41 percent to 369.56 points. The market capitalization was recorded at MUR 217.018 billion at end of today’s trading sessions.
Looking at the market activity, today total market turnover amounted to MUR 145.2 million mainly geared towards SBM Holdings, MCB Group and Mauritius Development & investment Trust (MDIT) which accounted for 86.3% of total market turnover. SBM Holdings traded flat at MUR 0.93 on 97.4 million at which price it saw two significant crosses of 31 million and 30 million shares. The other banking stock MCB Group opened at MUR 202.50, at which price it saw a cross of 58,000 shares before ending the session lower at MUR 202.00 on a total volume of 97,000 shares. While on the commerce counter, Innodis was the top performer of the session, up by 4.9% to trade at MUR 53.50 on only 423 shares. Among the industrial companies Mauritius Oil & Refinery went up by 1.8% to close at MUR 28.50 but Gamma shed off 0.3% to close at MUR 29.80. Whereas Phoenix Beverages Limited Mauritius experienced an increase of 0.5% compared to its ex-div reference price of MUR 304.50 to settle at MUR 306. At the same time, United Basalt Products went down by 1.2% to MUR 84.00.
Furthermore, the largest hotel group New Mauritius Hotels was the only loser among hotels, losing 0.4% to close at MUR 62.75 on total volume of 20,800 shares exchanged. However, Lux Island Resorts Mauritius and Sun Resorts Limited remained unchanged at MUR 61.75 and MUR 43.40 respectively. The national carrier Air Mauritius was up by 1.4% to conclude at MUR 11.15. On the investment sector, Mauritius Development & investment Trust (MDIT) closed higher at MUR 5.00, gaining 0.4%. Belle Mare Holding Limited was up by 0.8% to MUR 260 and United Docks up by 3.8% with closing price of MUR 68.00 on. Whereas, CIEL Ltd. lost 3.4% to close at MUR 6.86 and Alteo fell by 0.8% to end at MUR 31.00.
On the DEM, the index went down by 0.53% to reach 203.98 points. The market capitalization was recorded at MUR 48.422 billion. Market turnover amounted to MUR 3.4m mainly geared towards Hotelest and Ciel Textile which accounted for 94.2% of total market turnover.
