Casablanca, Morocco, Capital Markets in Africa — Negative sentiment continued to rule the equity trading at the end of today’s (1st October 2015) trading session. The Moroccan benchmark stock index (measured as MASI Index) plunged by 0.19 percent to close at 9,096.82 points (with a year-to-date performance to -5.26 percent) with total market capitalization at MAD 457.400 million (a reduction of MAD 1.03 billion or US$106 million relative to previous market capitalization of MAD 458.429). The market activity measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 24.119 million compared to MAD 70.466 million recorded at previous trading session.
Likewise, Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 7,440.20 points (fell by 0.07 percent compared to previous trading session). FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index sagged by 0.61 percent to close at 7,959.60 points (-9.76 percent year-to-date performance) but FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index rose by 0.09 percent to end at 7,657.22 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to -5.01 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Leisure & Hotels, Chemicals and Materials & Computer Services sector indices gained 3.83 percent, 2.67 percent and 1.66 percent respectively. On the losers’ side, Oil & Gas sector index (slumped by 2.70 percent to close the year-to-date performance at -7.90 percent), Investment Companies & Other Finance sector index (lost 2.16 percent to end at -10.06 percent year-to-date return) and Forestry & Paper sector index (fell by 1.84 percent to end at 21.94 levels).
Looking at the market price leaders and laggards, the leaders’ were DARI COUSPATE advanced by 5.94 percent to end at MAD 1,017.00 and S.M MONETIQUE grew by 5.67 percent to settle at MAD 205.00. INVOLYS also gained 4.76 percent or MAD 6.00 with closing price of MAD 132.00 as well as RISMA climbed by 3.83 percent to end at MAD 159.90. Conversely, ALLIANCE and RES DAR SAADA sagged by 6.86 percent (to settle at MAD 42.90) and slipped by 5.99 percent (to trade at MAD 124.75) respectively. AFRIQUIA GAZ and EQDOM also declined by 5.96 percent (with closing price of MAD 2,068.00) and dropped by 5.85 percent (to settle at MAD 1,062.00) respectively.
