Casablanca, Morocco, Capital Markets in Africa —On Friday, the equity trading witnessed a relief by ending in positive mood. The Moroccan benchmark stock index (measured as MASI Index) surged by 0.61 percent to close at 9,020.26 points (with a year-to-date performance to -6.24 percent) with total market capitalization at MAD 454.268 billion (a gain of MAD 2.5 billion or US$260 million relative to previous market capitalization of MAD 451.773). The market activity measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 33.816 million compared to MAD 142.832 million recorded at previous trading session.
The Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 7,367.20 points (rose by 0.68 percent compared to previous trading session). FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index grew by 0.95 percent to close at 7,850.37 points (-11.00 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index soared by 0.77 percent to end at 7,583.79 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to -5.92 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Electrical & Electronic, Real Estate and Mining sector indices grew by 5.68 percent, 4.81 percent and 1.24 percent respectively. On the laggards’ side, Chemicals sector index (sagged by 3.90 percent to close the year-to-date performance at -53.38 percent), Oil & Gas sector index (lost 2.19 percent to end at -8.73 percent year-to-date return) and Engineering & Equipment sector index (fell by 1.16 percent to end at 280.21 levels).
Looking at the market price leaders and laggards, the leaders’ were ALLIANCE advanced by 10.00 percent to end at MAD 29.70 and RES DAR SAADA grew by 5.79 percent to settle at MAD 128.00. NEXANS MAROC also gained 5.68 percent or MAD 7.95 with closing price of MAD 147.95 as well as CIH climbed by 4.73 percent to end at MAD 288.00. Conversely, STROC Industries and S.M. MONETIQUE plunged by 6.00 percent (to settle at MAD 45.12) and slipped by 5.98 percent (to trade at MAD 185.15) respectively. ZELLIDJA S.A and SNEP also declined by 5.98 percent (with closing price of MAD 129.75) and dropped by 5.85 percent (to settle at MAD 95.00) respectively.
