Morocco Equity Markets | 1 Sep 2015: Equities trading bleed today, indices and market capitalization lower
Casablanca, Morocco, Capital Markets in Africa — Equity trading on the Casablanca Bourse retreated to downward trend, hence the Moroccan benchmark stock index (measured as MASI Index) reversed by 112.14 point or 1.20 percent to close at 9,233.16 points (with a year-to-date performance to -4.02 percent). The equity market capitalization closed at MAD 470.971 billion (a drop of MAD 5.6 billion or US$ 577 million) from MAD 476.594 market capitalization recorded at previous trading session. The market activities measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 51.550 million.
Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 7,549.96 points (a fall of 1.21 percent compared to previous trading session). Also, FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index slumped by 0.88 percent to close at 8,160.05 points (-7.49 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index waned by 1.04 percent to end at 7,763.10 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to -3.69 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Forestry & Paper, Transport and Mining sector indices soared by 2.01 percent, 1.96 percent and 0.29 percent respectively. Conversely, Electrical & Electronic Equipments sector index (lost 5.98 percent to close the year-to-date performance at -21.57 percent), Holding Companies sector index (declined by 5.74 percent to end at -13,52 percent year-to-date return) and Utilities sector index (crashed by 3.42 percent).
From the market price movers and shakers, the gainers were, DISWAY soared by 5.99 percent to end at MAD 520.00 and CTM surged by 3.66 percent to settle at MAD 190.00. Likewise, MANAGEM jumped 2.48 percent or MAD 11.00 with closing price of MAD 455.00 as well as MED PAPER soared by 2.47 percent to settle at MAD 830.00. On the contrary, MICRODATA and NEXANS MAROC tumbled by 5.98 percent to settle at MAD 110.00 and fell by 5.98 percent to end at MAD 135.30 respectively. Equally, DELTA HOLDING and BMCI plunged by5.89 percent with closing price of MAD 25.40 and sagged by 5.70 percent to settle at MAD 562.00 respectively.
