Casablanca, Morocco, Capital Markets in Africa —Casablanca Stock Exchange opened the week on a positive sentiment as key indices and market capitalization ended higher at the end of today trading session. The Moroccan benchmark stock index (measured as MASI Index) grew by 0.36 percent to end at 9,053.02 points (with a year-to-date performance to -5.89 percent) with total market capitalization at MAD 456.191 billion (a decrease of MAD 1.92 billion or US$199 million relative to previous market capitalization of MAD 454.268 billion). The market activity measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 54,829 million compared to MAD 33.816 million recorded at previous trading session.
In the same positive sentiment, Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) ended at 7,396.59 points (soared by 0.40 percent compared to previous trading session). FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index dropped 0.20 percent to close at 7,834.72 points (-11.18 percent year-to-date performance) but FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index moved up by 0.19 percent to end at 7,598.05 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to -5.74 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Chemicals, Mining and Insurance sector indices surged by 2.61 percent, 2.59 percent and 1.67 percent respectively. On the losers’ side, Holding Companies sector index (dipped by 1.83 percent to close the year-to-date performance at -17.83 percent), Transport sector index (lost 1.24 percent to end at 21.83 percent year-to-date return) and Materials, Software & Computer Services sector index (sagged by 1.03 percent to end at 460.03 levels).
Looking at the market price leaders and laggards, the leaders’ were ALLIANCES grew by 10.00 percent to close at MAD 32.67 and ZELLIDJA SA added 5.97 percent to settle at MAD 137.50. MANAGEM also gained 5.26 percent or MAD 49.90 with closing price of MAD 980.00 as well as DARI COUSPATE jumped by 4.76 percent to end at MAD 1,100.00. On the laggards side, STROC INDUSTRIE and HPS tumbled by 5.98 percent (to settle at MAD 42.42) and sagged by 5.67 percent (to trade at MAD 416.00) respectively. REBAB Co SA Limited and MAGHREB OXYGENE also plunged by 3.28 percent (with closing price of MAD 123.80) and dropped 3.00 percent (to settle at MAD 97.00) respectively.
