Casablanca, Morocco, Capital Markets in Africa — On Monday, the Casablanca Bourse equity trading closed in the bullish sentiment. The Moroccan benchmark stock index (measured as MASI Index) continued the northward trend by adding 0.34 percent to close at 9,333.84 points (with a year-to-date performance to -2.98 percent) with total market capitalization at MAD 476.224 billion (an increase of MAD 1,426 million or US$147 million relative to previous market capitalization of MAD 474.798) and market activities measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 26.599 million.
Likewise, Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 7,532.83 points (advanced by 0.38 percent compared to previous trading session). However, FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index sagged by 0.04 percent to close at 8,179.12 points (-7.27 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index advanced by 0.46 percent to end at 7,861.34 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to -2.48 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Distribution, Mining and Banks sector indices rose by 1.67 percent, 0.89 percent and 0.83 percent respectively. On the other hand, Forestry & Paper sector index (sagged by 4.85 percent to close the year-to-date performance at -42.90 percent), Material, Software & Computer Services sector index (fell by 2.09 percent to end at -4.95 percent year-to-date return) and Electricity sector index (plunged by 1.04 percent to end at 1,194.19 levels).
Looking at the market price leaders and laggards, the leaders’ were, M2M Group gained 6.00 percent to end at MAD 228.00 and ENNAKL surged by 4.77 percent to settle at MAD 40.60. MANAGEM also added 3.49 percent or MAD 30.00 with closing price of MAD 890.00 as well as FENIE BROSSETTE jumped by 3.44 percent to conclude at MAD 121.95. Whereas, ZELLIDJA SA and DISWAY plunged by 5.99 percent (to settle at MAD 168.60) and 5.28 percent (to end at MAD 170.50) respectively. MED PAPER and SMI also slumped by 4.85 percent (with closing price of MAD 15.89) and 2.96 percent (to settle at MAD 2,522.00) respectively.
