Casablanca, Morocco, Capital Markets in Africa — Equity trading on the Casablanca Bourse was a bit stable today, the Moroccan benchmark stock index (measured as MASI Index) slightly added 0.92 point or 0.01 percent to close at 9,233.16 points (with a year-to-date performance to -4.01 percent). The equity market capitalization closed at MAD 471.285 billion (after adding of MAD 314 million or US$ 32.5 million) from MAD 470.971 market capitalization recorded at previous trading session. The market activities measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 64.486 million.
Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 7,550.33 points (by adding 0.37 points compared to previous trading session). FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index surged by 0.23 percent to close at 8,178.67 points (-7.28 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index sagged by 0.04 percent to end at 7,759.90 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to -3.73 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Electrical & Electronic Equipment, Real Estate and Investment Companies & Other Finances sector indices surged by 3.47 percent, 1.48 percent and 1.47 percent respectively. Conversely, Forestry & Paper sector index (plummeted by 3.19 percent to close the year-to-date performance at -40.03 percent), Construction & Building Materials sector index (sagged by 1.53 percent to end at 12.36 percent year-to-date return) and Engineering & Equipment Industrial Goods sector index (drooped 0.63 percent to end at 358.58).
From the market price movers and shakers, the gainers were, PROMOPHARMA gained 5.99 percent to end at MAD 865.40 and SONASID advanced by 5.95 percent to settle at MAD 649.50. Likewise, EQDOM jumped 5.87 percent or MAD 69.00 with closing price of MAD 1,245.00 as well as ENNAKL rose by 5.84 percent to settle at MAD 40.75. On the contrary, UNIMER and ALLIANCES slumped by 5.98 percent to settle at MAD 187.10 and bled off 4.30 percent to end at MAD 49.67 respectively. MED PAPER and LAFARGE CIMENTS slid by 3.19 percent with closing price of MAD 16.69 and fell by 2.67 percent to settle at MAD 1,750.00 respectively.
