Casablanca, Morocco, Capital Markets in Africa —The bear appeared today, the Moroccan benchmark stock index (measured as MASI Index) sagged by 0.43 percent to end at 8,979.63 points (with a year-to-date performance to -6.66 percent) with total market capitalization at MAD 452.960 billion (a decrease of MAD 1.92 billion or US$201 million relatively to the previous market capitalization of MAD 454.897 billion).
The market activity measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 46.541 million compared to MAD 30.192 million recorded at the previous trading session.
In the same negative sentiment, Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) ended at 7,335.00 points (lost 0.48 percent compared to the previous trading session). FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index fell by 0.17 percent to close at 7,676.44 points (-12.97 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index edged down by 0.42 percent to close at 7,546.17 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to -6.39 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Distributors, Electricity and Investment Companies & Other Finance sector indices gained 1.78 percent, 1.78 percent and 0.47 percent respectively. On the other hand, Leisure & Hotels sector index (sagged by 5.98 percent to close the year-to-date performance at 46.21 percent), Chemicals sector index (fell by 3.66 percent to end at -52.61 percent year-to-date return) and Forestry & Paper sector index (plunged by 3.10 percent to end at 20.57 levels).
Looking at the market price gainers and losers, the gainers’ were TASLIF advanced by 5.99 percent to close at MAD 42.81 and IB MAROC.COM went up by 5.97 percent to trade at MAD 109.15. LABEL VIE also surged by 5.50 percent or MAD 62.00 with a closing price of MAD 1,190.00 as well as BMCI Group rose by 3.39 percent to end at MAD 549.00. TAQA Morocco advanced by 1.78 percent or MAD 10.00 to trade at MAD 573.00.
In the red region, STROC INDUSTRIE and MINIERE TOUISSIT slumped by 6.00 percent (to settle at MAD 45.12) and sagged by 5.98 percent (to trade at MAD 1,006.00) respectively. RISMA and SONASID also slacked by 5.98 percent (with a closing price of MAD 144.70) and dipped by 5.81 percent (to settle at MAD 550.00) respectively. Also, JET CONTRACTORS declined by 5.41 percent to settle at MAD 175.00.
