Casablanca, Morocco, Capital Markets in Africa — The bear run persisted ion the Moroccan equity markets at the end today’s trading session. The Moroccan benchmark stock index (measured as MASI Index) sagged by 0.21 percent to close at 9,114.29 points (with a year-to-date performance to -5.26 percent) with total market capitalization at MAD 458.429 billion (a decreased of MAD 87.14 million or US$8.98 million relative to previous market capitalization of MAD 467.143). The market activity measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 70.466 million compared to MAD 50.459 million recorded at previous trading session.
Likewise, Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 7,445.70 points (sagged by 0.21 percent compared to previous trading session). FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index lost 0.12 percent to close at 8,008.57 points (-9.21 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index slashed by 0.36 percent to end at 7,650.25 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to -5.09 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Materials & Computer Services, Distributors and Construction & Building Materials sector indices gained 2.60 percent, 1.80 percent and 1.28 percent respectively. On the losers’ side, Holding Companies sector index (slumped by 4.23 percent to close the year-to-date performance at -18.17 percent), Engineering & Equipment sector index (lost 4.00 percent to end at -37.56 percent year-to-date return) and Leisures & Hotels sector index (fell by 3.75 percent to end at 696.94 levels).
Looking at the market price leaders and laggards, the leaders’ were INVOLYS advanced by 9.00 percent to end at MAD 126.00 and S.M MONETIQUE grew by 5.98 percent to settle at MAD 194. CIMENTS MAROC also gained 5.93 percent or MAD 70.00 with closing price of MAD 1,250.00 as well as DISWAY climbed by 4.71 percent to end at MAD 219.90. Conversely, ALLIANCE and RES DAR SAADA sagged by 6.00 percent (to settle at MAD 46.06) and slipped by 5.99 percent (to trade at MAD 132.70) respectively. BMCI and STROC INDUSTRIE also declined by 5.92 percent (with closing price of MAD 555.00) and dropped by 5.75 percent (to settle at MAD 71.00) respectively.
