Morocco (Capital Markets in Africa):- Morocco equity markets indices were down with the MASI index and the MADEX ending the session both in the red. Likewise the Morocco 15 and All-Liquid Index indices were also both down in todays trading. The total Market capitalisation decreased to US$60,580 billion losing US$306 million.
The Moroccan benchmark stock index (measured as MASI Index) fell by 0.28% to close at 9,776.00 points down 27.29 points from its previous close of 9,803.29 points recorded yesterday (taking the year-to-date performance to 1.62 percent).
The Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) decreased by 0.29% to close at 8019.20 points down 23.5 points from the 8042.70 points recorded previously (leaving the year to date at 2.25 percent).
The FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index was also down by -0.44 percent to close at 8,556.94 points decreasing from its previous close of 8594.69 points achieved yesterday (-2.99 percent year-to-date performance) likewise the FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid index was down by -0.40 percent to end at 8232.14 down from its previous close of 8,265.54 points in yesterday’s session (to bring the year-to-date performance to a positive 2.12 percent).
The market activity measured as total traded value recorded an increase to MAD 107,420 for the MADEX index and MAD 115,392 for the MASI index.
Out of the 75 component stocks that make up the MASI index, the number of stocks showing a rise increased to 14 while 20 stocks showed a decline and 3 showed no change over the course of the days trading.
For the MADEX the 50 component stocks also registered an increase with 12 risers, 19 stocks that declined and 3 showing no change over the course of the days trading.
The stocks that were top gainers today were LYDEC which increased +4.27% to close at MAD 437.95, Stokvis which increased +4.22% to close MAD 26.4, SONASID which increased +2.5% to close at MAD 820 and CNIA Saada which rose +0.97% to close at MAD 1,045.
The five top most capitalised stocks on the MASI index saw losses to their capital. ATTIJARIWAFA Bank with MAD 21,045 million (loss) for 203,527,226 securities at a price of MAD 344.30. ITTISSALAT-AL-MAGHRIB MAD 21,080 million (loss) for 879,095,340 securities at MAD 119.70, BCP MAD 10,085 million (loss) for 173,141,923 securities, LAFARGE CIMENT MAD 8,297 million (loss) for 17,469 securities and BMCE BANK MAD 8,057 million (loss) for 179,463,390 securities.
With regards to sector indices, the top gainers today were Forestry and Paper rising 5.11 percent to 22.56 points, Utilities which climbed by 4.27 percent to 1,824.79 points and Beverages sector indices which climbed 0.85 percent to 12,318.85 points respectively.
Oil and Gas, Pharmaceuticals Industry and Electrical and Electronic Equipment registered no change.
On the losers’ side were Transport (plunged by -2.63 percent to 1,864.66 points), Electricity which lost by -1.79 percent to 1,229.05 points and Telecommunications which fell by -1.42 percent to 1,731.35 points.
