Morocco Equity Watch | 13 Aug 2015: Blood on Casablanca Stock Exchange, indices and market cap down
Casablanca, Morocco (Capital Markets in Africa):- The Moroccan benchmark stock index (measured as MASI Index) plunged by 0.44 percent to close at 9,653.11 points (with a year-to-date performance to 0.34 percent) with total market capitalization at MAD 491.762 billion and market activities measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 51.465 million.
Likewise, Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 7,911.88 points (fell by 0.47 percent compared to previous trading session). Also, FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index decreased by 0.41 percent to close at 8,463.38 points (-4.05 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index declined by 0.60 percent to end at 8,091.95 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to 0.38 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Forestry & Paper, Chemicals and Leisure & Hotels sector indices climbed by 5.99 percent, 0.67 percent and 0.44 percent respectively. On the losers’ side were Holding Companies sector index (plunged by 2.16 percent to close the year-to-date performance at -8.25 percent), Bank sector index (declined by 0.81 percent to end at 1.30 percent year-to-date return) and Construction & Building Materials sector index (went down by 0.65 percent).
Looking at the market price leaders and laggards, the leaders’ were, MED PAPER advanced by 5.99 percent to end at MAD 17.51 and FENIE BROSSETTE surged by 4.84 percent to settle at MAD 127.85. Likewise, ALLIANCES gained 4.33 percent or MAD 2.20 with closing price of MAD 53.00 as well as MAGHRES OXYGENE rose by 4.00 percent to conclude at MAD 104.00. On the contrary, JET CONTRACTOR and BCP stumbled by 4.86 percent (to settle at MAD 203.50) and 2.42 percent (to end at MAD 223.85) respectively. Equally, DELTA HOLDINGS and LAFARGE CIMENTS plunged by 2.21 percent (with closing price of MAD 26.99) and 1.58 percent (to settle at MAD 1,870.00) respectively.
