Morocco Equity Watch | 17 Aug 2015: Casablanca Stock Exchange equity trading ends southward, indices and investors lose MAD 7.4 billion
Casablanca, Morocco (Capital Markets in Africa):- The Moroccan benchmark stock index (measured as MASI Index) fell by 1.61 percent or 155.44 points to close at 9,497.67 points (with a year-to-date performance to 1.61 percent) with total market capitalization at MAD 484.348 billion (a loss of MAD 7.414 billion relative to previous market capitalization of MAD 491.762) and market activities measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 33.315 million.
Likewise, Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 7,772.45 points (fell by 0.90 percent compared to previous trading session). Also, FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index decreased by 0.80 percent to close at 8,395.70 points (-4.82 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index declined by 1.58 percent to end at 7,963.86 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to 1.20 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Forestry & Paper, Food Producers & Processors and Chemicals sector indices climbed by 2.74 percent, 2.00 percent and 0.76 percent respectively. On the losers’ side were Construction & Building Materials sector index (plunged by 3.77 percent to close the year-to-date performance at 13.25 percent), Real Estate sector index (declined by 3.35 percent to end at 29.95 percent year-to-date return) and Mining sector index (went down by 3.18 percent).
Looking at the market price leaders and laggards, the leaders’ were, INVOLYS advanced by 6.00 percent to end at MAD 132.50 and MAGHRBAIL surged by 5.42 percent to settle at MAD 700.00. Likewise, CENTRALE LAITIERE gained 4.46 percent or MAD 50.00 with closing price of MAD 1,170.00 as well as MED PAPER rose by 2.74 percent to conclude at MAD 17.99. On the contrary, CGI and BMCI stumbled by 10.00 percent (to settle at MAD 522.00) and 5.99 percent (to end at MAD 619.40) respectively. Equally, STOKVIS NORD AFRIQUE and LAFARGE CIMENTS plunged by 5.91 percent (with closing price of MAD 24.38) and 5.88 percent (to settle at MAD 1,760.00) respectively.
