Morocco (Capital Markets in Africa):- Morocco equity markets indices backtracked today with the MASI index and the MADEX ending the session down. Likewise the Morocco 15 and All-Liquid Index indices also made losses both down in todays trading. Gains in the Casablanca Indices made yesterday were lost as the total Market capitalisation decreased to US$60,886 billion.
The Moroccan benchmark stock index (measured as MASI Index) fell by 0.87% to close at 9803.29 from its previous close of 9,888.96 recorded yesterday (taking the year-to-date performance to 1.90 percent).
The Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) decreased by 0.92% to close at 8042.70 points from the 8,1117.24 points recorded previously (leaving the year to date at 2.55 percent).
The FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index was also down by -0.59 percent to close at 8594.69 points decreasing from its previous close of 8,646.02 points achieved yesterday (-2.56 percent year-to-date performance) likewise the FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid index was down by -0.97 percent to end at 8,265.54 down from its previous close of 8,346.62 points in yesterday’s session (to bring the year-to-date performance to a positive 2.54 percent).
The market activity measured as total traded value recorded an increase to MAD 107,734 for the MADEX index and MAD 115,714 for the MASI index.
Out of the 75 component stocks that make up the MASI index, the number of stocks showing a rise increased to 7 from 22 while 24 stocks showed a decline and 10 showed no change over the course of the days trading.
For the MADEX the 50 component stocks also registered an increase with 6 risers, 20 stocks that declined and 8 showing no change over the course of the days trading.
Top gainers today were SMI which increased +3.00% to close at MAD 2,750, Espaces Saada which increased +1.78% to close MAD 172, LES which increased +0.8 to close at MAD 107 and CIH Bank which rose +0.32% to close at MAD 315.
The five top most capitalised stocks on the MASI index saw gains to their capital. ATTIJARIWAFA Bank with MAD 22,286 million (gain) for 203,527,226 securities at a price of MAD 365.00. ITTISSALAT-AL-MAGHRIB MAD 21,080 million (gain) for 879,095,340 securities at MAD 115.70, BCP MAD 10,167 million (gain) for 173,141,923 securities, LAFARGE CIMENT MAD 8,450 million (gain) for 17,469 securities and BMCE BANK MAD 8,074 million (gain) for 179,463,390 securities.
With regards to sector indices, the top gainers today were Transport rising 1.81 percent to 1,914.98 points, Mining which climbed by 0.49 percent to 17,785.21 points, Real Estate sector indices which climbed 0.20 percent to 11,795.87 points respectively.
Beverages, Leisures and Hotes and Electricity registered no change.
On the losers’ side were Forestry and Paper (plunged by -5.72 percent to 21.46), Chemicals which lost by -5.61 percent to 1,121.40 points and Utilities which fell by -4.11 percent to 1,750.00 points.
