Morocco Market Watch | June 1st 2015: Moroccan equity market returns to negative trend
Casablanca, Morocco (Capital Markets in Africa):- Morocco’s benchmark stock index (MASI Index) lost 0.24 percent to close at 9,687.63 points (reduced year-to-date performance to 0.70 percent) with total market capitalization at MAD 491,906 billion (decreased by MAD 1.16 billion compared to previous trading sessions market capitalization of MAD 493.119 billion) and market activities measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 21.195 million (a decrease from previous trading session of MAD 967.881 million). Likewise, Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 7,926.59 points (lost 0.26 percent compared to previous trading day). In addition, FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index went down by 0.09 percent to close at 8,508.23 points (-3.54 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index plummeted by 0.22 percent to end at 8,115.30 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to 0.67 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Utilities, Transport and Real Estate sector indices gained 2.79 percent, 0.99 percent, and 0.14 percent respectively. On the losers’ side were Engineering & Equipment (lost 4.64 percent to close the year-to-date performance at -34.51 percent), Telecommunications (declined by 1.07 percent and 1.67 percent year-to-date return) and Forestry & Papers sector index (went down by 1.00 percent).
The market sentiment was negative today, as the market breadth (advancer/decliners ratio) with 5 gainers and 13 losers. On the gainers’ chart, STOKVIS NORD AFRIQUE Morocco gained 3.49 percent to end at MAD 27.01 and LYDE Morocco advanced by 2.79 percent to settle at MAD 442.00. Also, CTM Morocco surged by 1.27 percent with closing price of MAD 400.00 as well as TOTAL MAROC advanced by 1.08 percent to conclude at MAD 562.00. While topping the losers’ chart were ZELLIDJA S.A. Morocco, DELATTRE LEVIVIER MARCO, INVOLYS, ENNAKL Morocco and SAHAM ASSURANCE plummeted by 5.99 percent (to settle at MAD 188.35), 5.97 percent (to end at MAD 189.00), 5.97 percent (with closing price of MAD 139.50), 4.85 percent (to settle at MAD 39.00) and 3.74 percent (to conclude at MAD 1,005.00) respectively.
