Morocco Market Watch | June 2nd 2015: Moroccan equity market continues in red
Casablanca, Morocco (Capital Markets in Africa):- Morocco equity market continued it bearish mood today. Morocco’s benchmark stock index (MASI Index) lost 0.14 percent to close at 9,674.37 points (reduced year-to-date performance to 0.56 percent) with total market capitalization at MAD 491.454 billion (decreased by MAD 452 million compared to previous trading sessions market capitalization of MAD 491.906 billion) and market activities measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 73.212 million (an increase of 245 percent from previous trading session of MAD 21.195 million). Likewise, Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 7,917.16 points (lost 0.12 percent compared to previous trading day). However, FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index added 0.24 percent to close at 8,528.85 points (-3.31 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index surged by 0.18 percent to end at 8,129.64 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to 0.85 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Forestry & Paper, Leisure & Hotels and Holding Companies sector indices gained 4.38 percent, 2.06 percent, and 1.71 percent respectively. On the losers’ side were Transport (lost 2.45 percent to close the year-to-date performance at 17.48 percent), Insurance (declined by 2.36 percent and 0.06 percent year-to-date return) and Construction & Building Materials sector index (went down by 0.87 percent).
The market sentiment was positive today, as the market breadth (advancer/decliners ratio) with 14 gainers and 10 losers. On the gainers’ chart, SAHAM ASSURANCE Morocco gained 5.47 percent to end at MAD 1,060 and MED PAPER Morocco advanced by 4.38 percent to settle at MAD 15.50. Likewise, TOTAL MAROC surged by 4.27 percent with closing price of MAD 586.00 as well as ALLIANCES advanced by 2.89 percent to conclude at MAD 98.00 While topping the losers’ chart were ZELLIDJA S.A. Morocco, M2M Group, WAFA ASSURANCE, and CIMENTS MAROC went down by 6.00 percent (to settle at MAD 177.05), 5.98 percent (to end at MAD 197.30), 5.01 percent (with closing price of MAD 3,562.00) and 4.44 percent (to settle at MAD 1,161.00) respectively.
